For a lot of that race, it looked like it was going to be a run away, because Shane Cockrum had broken away from Jerry Coons and established a big lead. At one time, up to almost a full straightaway. One two successive restarts after yellows, he repeated that. During that time, Coons was a strong second, Brady Bacon was holding down third place, Kody Swanson was slowly fading and Shane Cottle and CJ Leary were on the move. There was a restart on about lap 85 and things were different this time. Coons hung with Cockrum and began putting pressure one the leader. CJ Leary, who had driven his way into the top 5, aggressively put himself into the top 3 right after that restart. Another restart and he would pass Coons and then he was all over the leader. He took the lead away from Shane and looked fast, but the yellow came out and he would have to give it back. That's the last he would see of the lead though, because he had showed his hand and Shane stood on the gas and closed out the show. Even though it wasn't that close at the end as far as who the winner was going to be, second through sixth was a real war, for the last ten laps or so. By that time, Justin Grant had even driven his way into the lead group and was battling with the top runners. It was a good race and a well deserved win for Shane Cockrum. What is about that family and hundred lappers? Cliff was also always so tough in races of that lap count.

Great night of racing for the Champ Cars on a half mile. It was an awesome sight to see 4 wide high and low on the restart with about 10 laps to go instead of a one car run away too. Congrats to Shane Cockrum and crew on the win. |
