My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Nichols family. I remember Robert and his Dad Bob when I first started going to UMRA races. Bob was in the yellow 15 that year and Robert was fresh off a championship in the #1 car.
I looked up to Robert as guy who wasn't afraid to stand on the gas! I also remember him in the #15N Sprint Car that he piloted for a few seasons. Then ironically he ended up racing 1200cc Mini-Sprints when I was racing 600cc Mini-Sprints early in my career and he was a great influence still. A couple of years later we were racing side by side in UMRA T.Q. Midgets, the place where I became a race fan a the age of 3. He ran me hard but ran me clean and I had great respect for that. Both Bob and Robert were easy going and would do anything for you in the drop of a hat. Thanks for the great memories and great times on and off the track! God Speed Robert!! ![]() |

R.I.P. Robert you will be missed. I remember racing with the Nichols family and it was always a pleasure to see them. I always enjoyed talking to them and seeing them even after they left sprint car racing. Robert was also a good race car driver. The sprint car race that bgbrd mentioned was the labor day 50 lap special. Robert blew by me with around 10 to go I remember running second and wondering where in the world he came from because he started deep in the field. But I was happy for them because they were great people. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

I was so saddened to hear the news on Saturday night that Robert had passed... I always enjoyed watching him drive his TQ and mini-sprint. He was one of the greatest TQ drivers of all time IMO! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Nichols family... God Bless..
