My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Nichols family. I remember Robert and his Dad Bob when I first started going to UMRA races. Bob was in the yellow 15 that year and Robert was fresh off a championship in the #1 car.
I looked up to Robert as guy who wasn't afraid to stand on the gas! I also remember him in the #15N Sprint Car that he piloted for a few seasons. Then ironically he ended up racing 1200cc Mini-Sprints when I was racing 600cc Mini-Sprints early in my career and he was a great influence still. A couple of years later we were racing side by side in UMRA T.Q. Midgets, the place where I became a race fan a the age of 3. He ran me hard but ran me clean and I had great respect for that.

Both Bob and Robert were easy going and would do anything for you in the drop of a hat. Thanks for the great memories and great times on and off the track! God Speed Robert!!

R.I.P. Robert you will be missed. I remember racing with the Nichols family and it was always a pleasure to see them. I always enjoyed talking to them and seeing them even after they left sprint car racing. Robert was also a good race car driver. The sprint car race that bgbrd mentioned was the labor day 50 lap special. Robert blew by me with around 10 to go I remember running second and wondering where in the world he came from because he started deep in the field. But I was happy for them because they were great people. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

Robert always said that some even thought he was a lap car. He also said that the engine was way underpowered and it really help him stay on the throttle.

I was so saddened to hear the news on Saturday night that Robert had passed... I always enjoyed watching him drive his TQ and mini-sprint. He was one of the greatest TQ drivers of all time IMO! My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Nichols family... God Bless..

Your grandpa always fixed my race cars - and Robert showed me how to drive them.

Yes we all miss them both very much. Still hard to even thing that they are gone from us. Two of the best men I had the pleasure of meeting in my short 28 years.
