Last night was my second night at VCS, but far from my last. The first was the rainout. I agree with all of the good things everyone else has posted here. I have never met so many IOWers anywhere as I did those two nights. It was great to meet all of you, especially Bill. Sorry the car Bill was pitting for had such bad luck.

I would like to give a shout out to young Blake Nimee, driver of the bright yellow #79. I have had the opportunity to talk to him twice in the pits and was very impressed. Really nice young man. He is 15 and last night the announcer (our own Mr. Nunn) said that was the 9th time he had been in a sprint car. He had a tough time in his heat, but then others were the current VCS point leader Brett Triplett, Scotty Weir, Casey Shuman, Shane Cottle and Rickie Williams, so it wasn't exactly a cream puff heat. In the semi he started 6th and moved up, got passed and was back in 6th at one time. Rather than giving up, he kept on it and ended up taking 2nd in the "B" on the last lap. Started 19th in the "A" and finished 12th. I suggest you keep an eye on this young man.

I was also very happy with the announcing. I keep records of who is driving what car, starting where, etc. First, the sound system is as good as any I have heard. I think it is at least as good as my previous standard, Lawrenceburg, if not better. Chris spoke clearly and slowly enough to be understood and give time to write down the information. The practice some announcers have of running through 79 pieces of information about each driver, car, engine, chassis, spark plug brand, sponsors, phase of the moon the driver was born under, so fast they appear to be doing it because they think they are supposed to rather than to let us know who is driving what and where they are starting (usually done after the cars are all on the track) drives me nuts. They usually do it for the heats, same thing for the "B" if the driver is in that, and then for the "A". Good job Chris, and thanks to the speedway for one more fan-friendly feature. Also, no one has mentioned the free coffee. When was the last time you saw anything free at a track? Also clean rest rooms.

Lastly, I have been impressed with the fans. VCS fans are a nice, friendly, knowledgeable bunch of folks. I have had good conversations with about everyone around me both times I have been there. No rowdy drunks, just good people. The older I get, the more that means to me.

Great racing, great surroundings, I couldn't be more pleased. My list of 2 favorite tracks just got one bigger. If you haven't been to VCS, you should go.

My only complaint with Mr. Nunn and yes their has to be one to be fair. Is a couple times he didn't give the results. YES we were confused on who got what possition in a couple heats it was that close. Otherwise. Great Job

Frank.... It was nice meeting you too! You're correct... We didn't have the best of luck... but we'll try again next time.

The race track was the best I've seen all year. As for sprint car qualifying... I have one suggestion, when the timing equipment screws up that much... pull out the trusty ole stop watch and manually write the times down. If no one knows the timing equipment is screwed up, then no one knows you're really using a stop watch. We all know it's been done before.

Overall, it was a good night of racing.
