Why can't everyone have some insight on this medium like mr.funk.it would be a better forum.so in the world according to fish, why is winged racing more popular than non wing racing.can you construct a coherent thought and explain.🤓🤓🤓

I can remember when USAC switched to wings in the 1980's. It may not have been across the board, but it was because wings were "cool" and some considered they made the drivers "safer". When WoO started in the late 1970's, there were no wings. Many local tracks soon found what we all know... Non-wing racing is more competitive, easier on engines, and great to watch. Unfortunately, Indiana and California are the only two places that got the memo. Sprint car hotbeds in Ohio and Pennsylvania stuck with the wings and to be honest, there are many fans nationwide that have never seen a sprint without the wing. Sprint car fans can argue all they want about wing versus non wing, and while they do, the late models have come in taken a large portion of the television revenue and an even larger portion of the purses. Take Eldora for example... before Tony took over, you used to be able to read on the front stretch inside wall "home of the sprint". Could you actually claim that now? The World 100 is basically equal to the Kings Royal in Purse money, and the late models still have the Dream. Take a look at the money won to date for the season in the Lucas Oil LM Series. When you compare it to what our heros are racing for in USAC Non Wing Sprints, it will make you sick. We all love the Smackdown and Sprintweek and we should appreciate what we have while we have it.

There are way more tracks and National and regional sanctioning bodies running winged Sprint Cars than there are non winged Sprint Cars. WOO, ASCS (National and Regional) ASCoC, USCS, King of the West, MOWA, are some that quickly come to mind that sanction winged racing. Add all the non sanctioned weekly winged racing in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and on any given weekend there may be in excess of 400 winged cars running at heaven knows how many racetracks. WoO alone will sanction some 93 events in 2017. They will race in roughly half the states in the US.

For non winged sprint cars, there is USAC, BOSS, WAR/POWRi, MSCS and USAC/CRA, as well as the non sanctioned weekly racing in IN. On any given weekend, there are about 125 non winged cars running on about 7-10 racetracks. USAC will sanction 45 races this year, spread over 9 states which is great, but 2/3 of the events will be within about 3.5 hrs. of Indianapolis.

With more winged cars racing on more tracks, and more sanctioning bodies promoting races, more people see winged cars racing than see non winged cars on a weekend and over a season, so it is only logical that they would be more popular.

Should have took him to a WoO show at Haubstadt! That's comparing the same track at least. Btw, passing happens with a Wing at Eldora! Christopher Bell started 20th and ran 2nd in 40 Laps with No Yellows at the Kings Royal!Ryan Smith started 24th and ran 5th! Tired of hearing the lame excuse about no passing with Winged Racing! I've raced both and Passed plenty of cars both ways! I've seen single file races both Winged and Non-Winged! It depends on track conditions.
Thanks.

Thank you for this. I have never raced but agree with this 100% from a spectators perspective. I've only been to 3 winged shoes this year so far, but the woo race at lawrenceburg was great. Shane Stewart, donny and Larson put on a great show. Fast forward to sprint week at lawrenceburg, which I also attended. That feature had some racing back in the pack, but no one would ever call it a classic. Track conditions play a huge role. Was anyone at the Montpelier midget week show? Track was not so good and raving was a struggle but I still had fun because I was at a race track. But it was the track conditions that made that not a great show
