Only time I seen the track heavier than that was opening USAC show when they built it. It never widened more than halfway and in the sprint heats was one lane on corner exit. The cushion was difficult all night as it narrowed on exit of two and four.
Anyway, Hodges has the lead and is running away. However he aproaches back markers on a heavy narrow track. He messes around trying to go under, between anyway he can and can't figure it out. All this while Moffatt is closing in fast and gets within about four car lengths. Next time down the front stretch Hodges just goes in over the cushion and starts passing. He did it several times the rest of the race and would take the whole corner four in the fluff. Really the last time I seen that when it was that heavy was a MSCS race where both Coons and Clayton driving the 10 cars came from the tail to second and third both up in the fluff while the rest of the field is fighing in a 20ft wide lane..
Some weird stuff happened tonight.
After the first sprint heat, things went a lot smother the rest of the night. Moffatt gained about thirty points on Andretti for the championship. But other than a DNF for Andretti at the next race or a huge 15 place differential in finish. Andretti may be this years LBurg Champ.
Mods are dead tied in points going into final points race between Kincaid and Spillie They finished third and fourth behind winner Kramer and Shornick.
Wasn't the best of tracks but wasn't the worst. On to the next race. I twas cool to see Hodges running four in the fluff though. You rarely see it anymore. I cited one example above other than tonight. ANother was Levi running above at THAT and another was Link and another car doing it to come from the tail to transfer through the B at LPS a couple years back.
See you on CHampions night. Not sure there will ba any racing for me next weekend. I took my 400 mile round trip to Kokomo this week.
