not many cars, but some nice surprises and some excellent racing. got to figure there were 15 of em out west with usac, several up on the lake with boss, more at the putt and Waynesfield, any sprints in s/w ind. tonite? no offence to the loyal mod teams at the burg, but with mods sign ins running so low, maybe its time to pull the plug and start up a midget program, would give a lot of the sprint and midget drivers a chance to double up every week and hopefully draw more of each, something to think about. congrats kt jr. and thank all the sprint teams who came out for putting on an excellent show, the the prep crew for another racey track

Yep Johnny replace the mods with midgets....maybe it will work as good as it has at Gas City

Wow, Another killer night at The Burg!

Knowing there was several tracks running, USAC out west and Fremont putting up 5G I didn't know what to expect getting to the track, Getting there about three and pulling past the ball fields I was happy about five were already back there. Then I see the Epperson trailer pull in, And a few others before the pit gate opened.

Grabbing my spot in the stands It seemed the track was a bit heavier than last week It was but it was also packed down good. I chatted with Moffatt and his dad for a good bit early on, Made a couple laps of the pits amazed at some of the quality that had shown up. Good to see KT.jr, Cottle, Dickie Gaines, Gary Taylor, Westerfeld, Goodnight, Landon Simon and his beautiful car. Stapp, Abel, Abrams, Webber. I was very pleased to see Ted Hines Return after his USAC spill. Welcome back Iron Man! and last car i seen unload was Logan Jarrett. Steve Thomas also snuck in as I hadn't seen him till qualifying.

Abrams really surprised me in the heat with his win, Congrats!
KT was the only runaway heat win and the heats were hard racing and competitive.

The track stayed good till after qualifying but the wind dryed it out and it was pretty slick for heats with a cushion to lean on. A little bit of low racing in 3-4 but mostly on the cushion with some ducking under and position swap sliders.

Shot of water before the feature brought the track back better and it actually got faster the longer the feature went on.

Logan Jarrett walked off for the first fifteen or so laps before the only caution of the feature came out for a thrown wheel cover, Not only did it kill the advantage Jarrett had before the yellow (Roughly as straight) but Cottle had ducked under KT for second only to have it taken away by the caution as the lap had not been completed.

After the lap 15 restart it was three under a blanket till about lap 21 when KT secured the lead from Cottle and Jarrett kinda faded to third. Westerfeld ran a fast race race to come home fourth. Landon Simon was nipped and got his fifth position stolen by Gary Taylor on the last corner of the last lap. Feature done at 9pm on the nose. Interesting note is after the restart Jarrett stayed commited to the cushion with westerfeld in tow while KT and Cottle were running low. I didn't expect the bottom to come in like that, but it did and it was faster at the end than at the start (At least it looked that way)

Mods were rough for the first few laps but after they got the fifth restart going the rest of the race went well. Kramer dominated over Nicely and Scotty Kincaid who put on a great battle for second all race.

Joey Kramer has often given the kids who drew his pill number his trophy. He did so again tonight and it looked like the kid was about three or four. and when he got back on stage, He held that trophy high and the crowd cheered. He was on cloud nine. A fan for life and it sure was a nice gesture from Joey!

Street stocks had a strong showing and great racing with Will McRobers dogged the whole race by Hensley and Brandon Gibson who stole second a couple times near the end but finished third. Beeler came from eight to fourth.

Racing done at ten, Home by 11

I thought it turned out to be a excellent night, Excellent turnout, decent crowd and weather was fantastic once the wind died down. Ten more mods and it would have been the Perfect show. The wrecker was only used once and that was to separate two mods. Local favorite Spille blew his sprinter in the heat race. Richie Lex Hotlapped and loaded up. Not sure.

KTjr. Is KING of the Midwest! It's good to be King!

Thanks to the staff, teams and safety crews and the man above for the weather.

See you next week!

haven't heard how its working at gas city, far as I know they've only had one show thus far. anytime you're starting a startup series at any track it takes time, so hopefully the midgets'll continue to build at g c and will build over the next year or so throughout ind and oh. they sure seem to be doing well in ill. I know I sure do like em, I'm a fanatical fan of sprint car racing, but midgets are damn near as fast and a whole lot more agile

Theres not a darn thing wrong with the mods and the count is going to vary. Gotta figure, Brownstown (Big Points Purse) Twin Cities 1000 to win tonight, Florence, Eldora, Waynesfield and Puttnamvile and probably a couple others running them tonight. Even if theres a couple hundred the class is getting pulled in ten directions. One of our guys is in the Reserves so Adam Hamilton was serving our country and not at the track, Richie Lex broke in hot laps.

You still won't want to miss the Downey Memorial, Best race I seen all year last year running side by side for the lead for over half the race.

Chuck, Saying I don't think at this time a weekly midget show is viable at any track unless somebody were to form a 15 race series sanction like Namars or Cora used too and build a solid following, No offense but Powri has pretty much cornered the market and they often don't pull 25

maybe the answer is to work with other tracks and have midgets one week, mods another and so on/ yup, sure do love them midgets, but guess its no big deal as long as we get incredible sprint car races week after week (knock on wood)

I don't know what the answer is Johnny Im sure they're working on it. Working with another track like Moler or Whitewater might work.

I still say even a every other week Midget series wouldn't work. Once Midgets dried up in Ohio and thinned in Indiana, We had two races every year for awhile. Namars was one (The group based at 16th street) Would go out and race a race at several other tracks. And USAC was the other and is now part of Midget Week.

Used to be lots of Midgets, When I was a kid it was a Sprint/Midget and Beetle Booster track with LM's every other week or what is pretty much now Bombers as Stock Cars were pretty stock back in the 70s. Change some springs, shocks carb and tear the glass and plastic out of em and race.

I have very little to add as Charles gave another thorough report.

One thing I read on Facebook. The Simon's had a scary moment while on their way home:

"Dodged a bullet (almost literally) on the way home from Lawrenceburg Speedway tonight. As we were passing a semi truck, a ratchet strap flew off that semi and the metal hook smashed through the back window of the dually, covering us all with shards of glass. Amy and I, being in the back seat, even have glass in our shoes and our ass cracks! True story. Thankful we are all ok, including Landon and Sarah. Sounded like a bomb went off. Max is ok, too!"

Glad all are okay. It could have been much worse. The truck driver never bothered to stop.
