First I'd like to say thanks to everyone who offered suggestions - unfortunately we left at 6am on Tuesday morning so DRKRACEFAN, I didn't get to use any of your suggestions but I did get a nice variety of NEW places to eat. Wish I could have tried all of them but there's always next year!
Here's what we tried...
Hawker thanks for suggesting
Elmer's BBQ - Great food/BBQ! It Be Bad BBQ was exactly that! They were so nice and even gave us 2 jars of their BBQ sauce just for stopping! Told us just to pass the word about Elmers! Will be back for sure! Also tried
Ike's Chili. I was a bit disappointed on this one - didn't blow us away (maybe we should have ordered it with beans?). The coney dog was good enough to come back for but didn't like JUST the chili by itself. Maybe a matter of taste! We wanted and tried to get Hideaway Pizza but this place closes at 10:30 Fri/Sat and 9:30 during the week so we were out of luck each night after the races! Will have to try for lunch I guess next year. We really struck out on the pizza joints in Tulsa!
Sprinter54 thanks for suggesting
Jimmy's Egg! We loved this one! We ate at Tally's the first day - again, very average, got our food at different times as other people in our party and service was lacking - the next morning we tried Jimmy's Egg and went there a couple days in a row! They have homemade bread/toast which was delicious!! Thumb's up here!
STP thanks for suggesting
BurgerStreet! Another good joint! Had this a couple times too - love the tator tots! Not many places you can get the tots! Also, thought it was funny you pointing out QuikTrips beverage selections until I went in one and man were you right, like the majority of the store is all beverage coolers!
Checer'd Past thanks for suggesting
Harden's and hoped you liked it too! We liked the taste/seasoning on the burgers! Very good and will be back here too!
If anyone has the opportunity to try the
Hammett House in Claremore, it is worth the 20 minute drive! Cream pies a mile high! All homemade dressings, pies, breads, etc. Great place!
All in all, this post helped tons and we really appreciated the suggestions - no more arguing over where we were eating! (I had it all planned out) I will make it a point next year not only to visit our 'new favorites', but try some that we weren't able to get to like the Fish Market Hawker suggested! Thanks again and can't wait until the 2009 Chili Bowl!!
Thanks all!!! Stacie
