It's Kevin Miller's first day on the job and Owen's postion is done away with.
Jason Smith will return as Senior V/P Race Operations. [ #2 ].
Greg Staab gets to work with schedules and run sprint division.
Carey's comeback.
Kevin sez that USAC is going for the race fans and bringing in a new younger group of fans. In other words Promotion of events making a National Series.
Kevin also talked about podcast such as www.mo-pod.com of USAC event highlights. Where are the fans today? on the computer, looking at stuff.

Perhaps I should clarify an earlier statement, USAC can't draw sprint cars (not fans) and fill fields outside of those states. Many winged guys won't take off the crutch, but when they do some can do pretty well.

These seem like steps in the right direction. I really like Staab, he's a sharp guy.

The mile track is gone but there is still part of it in front of the grandstand where they hold rodeos , demo derbies and motocross. It looked to me like the original guardrail was still in place in front of the grandstand where Elmer George crashed into a bunch of spectators. The former infield is now a parking lot and sitting where the backstctch used to be is an outdated coliseum. Unlike the DelMar grounds, this place needs some updating badly.

The third historic site that I visited was the Michigan State Farigrounds sitting in the middle of a Detroit ghetto. wow... you need an armed bodyguard in that neighborhood. The lady at the entrance wouldn't let me in so I drove around to the back off of 8 Mile Road and found an open gate. I drove in and there was a hint of the mile track. The old condemned grandstand was still there (since demolished), not very big, maybe would hold 3,000 people. A big portion of the infield has been taken over by a commercial Baseball field business... but... apparently when the track was shut down they left the original banking in place because you could see exactly where the track used to be. In fact, if you removed the grass and weeds you could probably race there again. At one point a few years ago, there was a movement to build a paved mile track there but a high dollar neighborhood a mile or so away said the noise would be too much and the mayor and city officals put the clamps on the project.

While in the grandstands at Phoenix, looking across the parking lot you should have also been able to see a lot of homes there, just over the block or concrete 8ft high wall, that would have been the back straightaway wall

I think they will take off the wings when the money is there. On another note I would like to see WOO and USAC co-sanction two events together, one being wing and the other being traditional. I know I know but still. Heck I'm sure we could find someone to show RacerRob how to assemble a wing kit.

OK Joey!!

When we first started back into sprint cars (1987) we ran exclusively with a wing and set quick time and NTRs at the WoO shows at Bloomington two consecutive years. Also won USAC winged race at Moberly, MO with Rich Vogler in 1989.

I think I might remember something about winged racing but I don't know if the most of the USAC guys could be competitive in the motor department. I also remember when USAC ran both wing and non wing in the same season it was usually a cherry pick for the WoO guys if they had the night off.

I really don't get how "More races broadcasted on the INTERNET" Helps promote the sport. It helps me, A existing race fan but reaches very few potential new fans.

TV's the way to go. Not knocking these shows. I just don't see it doing nothing but hurting local gates.

Lets see, You go to a USAC show and you see a 30lap race for 5000 to win, not very much at the back in pay and no local drivers or very few?

What do we do to change this? USAC's been stuck on it's 20 dollar gate for what? 20 years? 25 dollar regular USAC shows 6000 to win 300 to start, Every ten cars is a heat and no LCQ

30-35 dollar shows, 40-50 lap features. 8000 to win 400 to start.

Lets do it! Make it special! Market it and Go!
