There are way more tracks and National and regional sanctioning bodies running winged Sprint Cars than there are non winged Sprint Cars. WOO, ASCS (National and Regional) ASCoC, USCS, King of the West, MOWA, are some that quickly come to mind that sanction winged racing. Add all the non sanctioned weekly winged racing in Pennsylvania and Ohio, and on any given weekend there may be in excess of 400 winged cars running at heaven knows how many racetracks. WoO alone will sanction some 93 events in 2017. They will race in roughly half the states in the US.
For non winged sprint cars, there is USAC, BOSS, WAR/POWRi, MSCS and USAC/CRA, as well as the non sanctioned weekly racing in IN. On any given weekend, there are about 125 non winged cars running on about 7-10 racetracks. USAC will sanction 45 races this year, spread over 9 states which is great, but 2/3 of the events will be within about 3.5 hrs. of Indianapolis.
With more winged cars racing on more tracks, and more sanctioning bodies promoting races, more people see winged cars racing than see non winged cars on a weekend and over a season, so it is only logical that they would be more popular.
