Steve Buckwalter Dominates Grandview ARDC TOTH
By Mark Kielblock

Bechtelsville, Pa. - Steve Buckwalter has had a lot of success in ARDC Midget racing. With ARDC's handicapping procedure that success leads to him from deep in the field in the feature races. With an average starting spot of 16th and only 25 laps to get to the front, no matter how good Buckwalter is, he usually ends up pulling out a victory in the late laps. Tuesday night at Grandview Speedway, Buckwalter stomped on the loud pedal and threw all that late-race stuff out the window as he drove to a dominating victory in the Thunder on the Hill feature.

Shane Penny and Tracy Readinger brought the 26 car field to the green flag. While Readinger began to struggle at the outset with a deflating right rear tire, Penny drove off to an impresssive gap on the field. As Penny was having his way with the field, PJ Gargiulo was giving the Zrinski Special/Sperrs Fuel Oil no.10 one of it's best rides of the year, and rookie Dusty Heistand was running strong in the top 5 in the early laps. The yellow winked on for a tangle in turn 4 involving Curt Michael, Jimmy Commock, Drew Heistand, Donnie Trent and Eric Heydenreich.

When they got back to racing, Penny continued to pace the field, but the real show in was back in the pack. Steve Buckwalter was knocking on the door of the top 5 before the halfway point, moving up from the sixteenth starting spot. Other drivers picking their way through were, Bruce Buckwalter, coming up from 10th, Frank Polimeda from 14th, Billy Pauch Jr. from 18th and Ryan Watt in the Schell Racing Hawk/Pontiac from 17th.

Once Steve Buckwalter got into second, he quickly closed the gap on Penny and dove underneath him between 3 & 4. Penny saw Buckwalter beneath him and valiantly tried to hold the spot, but he finally lost the handle on the Leisure Line Stove Co. Spike no. 34 and slid to a stop, bringing out the yellow.

On the restart, Steve Buckwalter continued to put a whipping on the field, but point leader Frank Polimeda, Billy Pauch Jr. in the RT Racing/Becker Painting no. 20 and Bruce Buckwalter entertained the crowd with a battle for the second spot. Polimeda finally prevailed and nailed down the runnerup spot. "I hope the fans enjoyed that racing, because it doesn't get any better than that," Polimeda said in victory lane. "I don't know about anybody else, but I'm getting tired of getting beat by that 0 car," Polimeda quipped. Pauch Jr. grabbed third, Bruce Buckwalter fourth and Ryan Watt finished off another stellar ARDC appearance with a top five finish. PJ Gargiulo faded somewhat from a strong early run finishing 6th, Stephanie Stevens was seventh followed by rookie Trevor Kobylarz, Zach Martini and Shane Penny coming back to grab 10th.

Heat races for the 29 ARDC Midgets on hand were won by Shane Penny, Tracy Readinger and Steve Buckwalter. The B-main went to Pauch Jr.

25-lap ARDC Midget Feature - 1) 0-Steve Buckwalter 2) 44-Frank Polimeda 3) 20-Carey Becker 4) 83-Bruce Buckwalter 5) 75-Ryan Watt 6) 10- PJ Gargiulo 7) 26- Stephanie Stevens 8) 05-Trevor Kobylarz 9) 29-Zach Martini 10) 34-Shane Penny 11) 57-Jason Rice 12) 99-Scott Zipp 13) 9-steve Lenig 14) 49-Carey Becker 15) 78-Nick Wean 16) 46-Brett Arndt 17) 6-Dusty Heistand 18) 17-Donnie Hoffman 19) 00-Greg Robinson 20) 11-Eric Heydenreich 21) 91-Donnie Trent 22) 12-Drew Heistand 23) 54-Curt Michael 24) 84-Jimmy Commock 25) 2-Tracy Readinger 26) 16-Dave Shirk
