Not sure who the track announcer was at Eldora "Back in the Day", but he would always introduce Super Duke as "The Legend in his own Mind".

The first announcer I heard use that line was Bill Donnella when he was the mike-man at the USAC shows. I don't know if he originated it though.

When I first started going to Eldora ('64) they would usually have Omar Williams from Channel 2 (WLW-D) and Tom Hamlin from Channel 7 (WHIO-TV) in Dayton doing the track announcing for USAC events. Williams was a knowledgeable racing fan...Hamlin, not so much. I remember the verbal jab at Duke Cook, but can't remember who said it.
Might have been Donnella, Baltes, or one of these guys.

I was at an All Star show at K-C on May 11, 1991. We had been at the Outlaw show at the Indy Mile the previous night. Doug Wolfgang was in Max Rogers 49 at the time and he went to K-C also. Doug had fast time and would be starting the A in sixth. After the B was over he asked to see my lineup notes and was asking who the cars were in front of him. I told him the 33 car was Steve Siegel (Ben Cook's v-6) and he won the B running the bottom. Doug then laid down this classic:
"Them PA guys all run the bottom. They're a bunch of *******".
