Kyle Cummins was on a mission tonight. Congrats on your first Bloomington win. Probably got the Hard Charger award too, starting 12th. Well done 3C team.

There were a couple of yellows early. The second one was for a tangle in between turns one and two. Robert Ballou did a Tommy Tipover, Daron Clayton ended up turned around and Brandon Morin was involved, as well. So here you had it, a complete restart with The Madman and the Modern Day Cowboy both starting on the tail. You didn't know exactly what was getting ready to happen, but whatever it was, no doubt it was going to get a little crazy! Shuman took off well and grabbed the lead, with Brady Short in tow. Shane Cottle was also fast, but had Dave Darland draped all over him. Early in the race, Darland made an aggressive pass on Cottle coming out of turn four. About five laps in Clayton started mowin' em' down. About five laps after that you could tell that everybody in the crowd was starting to notice, as he had worked his was up through more than half the field. You could see them pointing at Clayton as he flew by and yelling to their racing buddies. A few laps after that he was in the top group of cars, battling Dave, Shane and eventually Brady, for their positions. But, while they were being wowed by Clayton, under the radar, Kyle Cummins had rifled his way through the field, from the fifth row and was second to Casey and was threatening. Then here comes Brent Beauchamp to grab second. He had been strong all night. Clayton plateaued a bit and settled into a position in the top 5, but just then Robert Ballou had started to go on a tear and was putting himself into the mix. Then there was a yellow with eight laps left. With the way these guys were slugging it out, having them bunched back up meant we were in for a real fight to the finish, with Casey Shuman holding the point. But, right at that moment there was just a terrible sight. Shuman had a right rear that was almost completely flat. He had fought so hard, and up to that point was the man and just like that, his night was over. When they went green, Beauchamp took off a had a nice little lead and looked to be on his way to the victory, but then here came Cummins. He reeled was reeling him in. And while this was going on, Darland, Ballou and Clayton were going at it tooth and nail. What a battle!! With three to go Cummins had caught Beauchamp. With two to go he was all over him. When they threw the white flag, it was on and Kyle threw a slider coming out of turn two. They made a little bit of contact and the 3 car drove onto the victory. It was a racing deal and you hated to see either one lose, because they both deserved to win. Front to back, this was a hard race to beat! Everybody was standing the last 20 laps. The crowd was buzzing as they went to their cars. Like they do when they see Instant Classic. It was just crazy. There were a few laps that I didn't even know who the hell the leader was. With all that was going on, all over the place.

Brady Short and Casey Shuman brought the field to the green in the Sprint Car feature, with Shuman darting out to the lead out of turn two. Unfortunately for Shuman, a three car accident in turn one would cause a compete restart. The complete restart would also be nullified as another multiple car incident occurred, resulting in Robert Ballou upside down in turn two. On the third attempt at a restart, Shuman took the lead from Short, and would lead lap one. One lap was all they got in as Brandon Mattox and Kent Schmidt brought out a caution in turns one and two. When racing resumed, Brent Beauchamp shot under Short to battle for second, with Short holding the spot. Behind them, Dave Darland, Shane Cottle, and Kyle Cummins waged war for the fourth spot. Cottle would grab the spot, with the 12th starting Cummins to fifth. Chad Boespflug would bring out the caution on lap six, bunching the field back up. Beauchamp would take the second spot from Short on the restart, as the top three ran figuratively under a blanket. Another driver making a charge was Daron Clayton, who had started 13th and was up to fifth, after a slide job on Cottle. Up front, Cummins had taken over the second spot from Beauchamp. Cummins then took the lead from Shuman, and things got crazy. With heavy lapped traffic ahead of the leaders, they all caught up at the same time. This led to a 10 car, chaotic mess between five lapped cars, and the top five. In all this, Cummins got shuffled off the backstretch banking, falling from first to fifth, giving Shuman the lead. The caution flew during this war, as the cars slowed, Beauchamp climbed the rear of Shuman, flattening Shumans right rear while he was leading. With 8 laps to go on the restart, Beauchamp led the field to the green. Cummins started to work his way forward from fifth, moving back up to the second spot, getting around Short with just five to go. He caught Beauchamp, and made a couple of attemps to move under him. As the white flag flew, Cummins threw a slide job on Beauchamp, making contact coming out of two, upsetting Beauchamps machine. Cummins was able to pull away and take the $3,000 victory over Beauchamp, Short, Cottle, and Ballou.

Sprint Car heat winners were Casey Shuman, Shane Cottle, Brady Short, and Brent Beauchamp. The BMain went to Donny Brackett

That may be the best race I've ever seen at Bloomington. Congrats to Kyle on the win after all the seconds. He's really looking good this year and maturing as a driver.

Time for me and everyone else to quit comparing Kyle to Daddy Mark. Last night proved to all that he is his own driver and can win against the best in the business. Nice run Kyle!!

That was one of the best races I've seen at Bloomington! Thought Kyle Cummins was out, but he came roaring back for an exciting last lap win. I'll bet my old racing buddy, David Lynch, was looking down and smiling on that finish!
