I don't care what corporate entity gets to inhale the profits, and what language they speak--although, let's face it, the Toyota CEOs likely speak several, fluently--the point is They Are Employing American Workers. Unlike hundreds of American companies that put red white and blue packaging around a product built in Taiwan.
Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. When the All-American manufacturers finally grasp the change in the economic climate, and cease devoting their energies and efforts to the newest, biggest, gaudier Hummer-sized gas guzzlers, and begin to put some thought into safe vehicles of elevated fuel-efficiency standards, they'll only be about two decades behind the curve.
To actually break any emotional ties to USAC after all these years for this "transgression" is, frankly, funny to me. It's like finally getting angry at a decades-long, known arsonist because he burned an American flag.
We must remember that some of the fans with more than a few racing seasons under their belt may have lived through WWII and still think the Japanese are the devil in disguise. We beat the Japanese with force some 60+ years ago, now they are beating us financially. It's hard for them to let go of that.

Some people have a different point of view on some issues that are based on their life experiences. That doesn't necessarily make them right or wrong - that's just the way they see it.

I wouldn't buy a Japanese car personally, but then again, I don't think USAC are jerks just because Toyota is the "official vehicle of USAC" either.

Toyota does what USAC should do. They set five, ten and twenty year goals and strive to achieve them.

American buisness and govt for that matter has turned reactionary

Guys it sounds like your really a lot madder at Toyota than USAC... Lets Face Facts, If any one of the Big 3 would step up, Toyota would not be in USAC... Also, lets note that those same Big 3 have taken most of our jobs and went both North and South of the Border with them..... Try at least being equally as Mad at Them as you are at Toyota for filling the void....
Also, I like Greg Stabb but it sounds to me like he's not the only head going to roll.... As for the Drivers coming and going, Get the Heck over it.... So did Foyt. So did a whole lot of others. They always will... As long as they come back now and then for the fans, or they build teams to help other young drivers, What more do you want...
Are we to be Mad at Tony and Kasey because they are putting MONey and talent Back into the Sport????
My point is that you Can;t Fix USAC from the outside looking in and just ******** about it... You have to work Harder to Be Involved... Contribute not only Ideas but do the Leg Work... The Dirty Work that it takes to make shows work... Then maybe you will not only Heard, but Listened Too...
Here's a Point that Everyone could help out with... SPONSorship,,, Almost everyone thinks USAC needs to do more... How many of you have Tried Helping out with that... A lot easier said than done, believe me... but try.... don;t just say you can;t...try... Even if its just a few dollars compared to whats needed overall... Those few dollars mean a lot these days... Take it on yourself to find a Heat Sponsor for a Race maybe even find a Contengency Award.... Here;s an idea, Find a Heat Sponsor for each of the Sprint Week Races... Try finding an extra 50.00 for a team that travels to your track from out of State for help with Fuel... Find some Gift Certs for Meals at your Local Restaraunts... Anything you can Find, it All Helps... and when you have tried that, maybe you can get the idea of how easy it is to look for a Title Sponsor, just for 1 Race, let alone a National Series....
This Addiction we have for Racing, is Expensive for everyone... Finding a way for Racing at any level to survive in the Future will be constant struggle.... Enjoy what we have today because its Going To Change very soon.....

Are you serious? The Japanese killed many Americans at Pearl Harbor, not the Aussies. Unless your grandfather is American and lived here during WWII, then you or he wouldn't understand. It was the worst thing thing that happened to the USA before 9/11.

Also, I am not defending anybody. It is a just possible explanation for the way he feels about Japanese. Got it?

Are you always right about every frigging thing? You seem to think you are. :loser::moon:

Wow...

This thread has become a joke, much like most threads in this forum...Steve Eckert evokes a thought-provoking, intelligent post about the current and future state of USAC (and his hopes for a renaissance for the series) and you people turn it into a debate of nationalistic sensibilities and patriotism, littered with this board's own special brand of ignorance. It simply amazes me how so completely divisive and oblivious some people can be...

It reminds me of the old saying that is widely (but not irrefutably) attributed to Mark Twain:

"Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt".

Amen.

Dean Mills - "Refuse to be denied, refuse to compromise, your ideology always a lie. It's jingoistic or nationalistic, or whatever the hell you want to call it" (John Bush, Anthrax)

So you're surprised by the twists and turns this thread has taken? This is business as usual around here. Remember we are dealing at times with a bunch of half-wit weirdos here at IOW. And I am their shining example.:kookoo:wink

To get back on topic (sort of...you be the judge)...I'd personally like to see USAC be a destination for young drivers, not a stepping stone to another series. I'd love to hear a young driver say "my goal is to race USAC," and I know with way things currently are, that's not going to happen. It's going to take a LOT of resurrecting to get to that point. That's going to take selling to corporate America and getting a TV deal for starters. It's probably going to take corporate sponsorship dollars to pay for TV time to get USAC back on live (or almost live) TV on a network that many people can actually find. We need Thursday Thunder back!!

I would like to see them on tv too. I thought they were supposed to have a tv deal for last year?
