I am pretty sure jason smith and jason mcCord headed up PRA but they wouldn't be the ones to call off a show that would come from above them

We're one for three (I think) at Oswego under two different sanctioning bodies. Maybe it just ain't gonna work out.

Jerry and Sam, low car count is one of the rumors flying around Oswego for the cancelletion of the race. I have feared the plug would be pulled on this race all year, as Jerry said the schedule for the week just seemed extremely tight to me travel wise. I knew for a fact Oswego did not have a signed contract as late as the beginning of July, then it seemed like everything fell in place and finally July 16th they started announcing the race at the Big O, the next week Oswego was closed for the Sandusky Hy-Miler, this week is the Mr. Supermodified $10,000 to win race which usually draws a good crowd.
So my question to Mr. Miller would be how do you expect a race to be successful if you only give the track two or three weeks to advertise that race? My second thought USAC seems to feel they need the Nascar faithful to make a race at Oswego successful, maybe the Nascar stars weren't falling into line as they thought they had secured. Thirdly and I am sure many of you may not want to hear this, the WoO is racing on Tuesday August 3rd at Fulton, N. Y. less than 15 miles from Oswego; maybe there was a fear the local fans wouldn't support both races. I know one thing for sure having been in Oswego since spring, the WoO race was getting all the hype, advertising and the USAC Silver Crown Race was the best kept secret in town. I have expressed my thoughts on USAC's lack of advertising in the past so I won't go there. I got really excited yesterday when I saw the commercial on IOW that was going to play in the local N. Y. area of Oswego then within about an hour it was gone and so was the race. As I said earlier I can't wait to see the press release for this cancellation, see what the wording has to say. Just a suggestion, maybe USAC needs to find a seperate sponsor for the Silver Crown series, run ORP monthly as someone posted in another thread and try to get back to tracks like Richmond, PIR and Oswego with the pavement Silver Crown cars. In the 21 years that I have been racing with USAC I have never seen such a mess ! Why has it came to USAC having to be not only the sanctioning body but also the promoter as well ? My personal opinion is that they have burned too many bridges with the track owners. They shoved the new generation cars down everyones throat and eliminated a lot of the old car owners by doing so. Now they are starting to get good car counts again and they start cancelling races ! Lastyear they ran Oswego on Kahnes money and he told USAC he wouldn't be sponsoring it this year before he left the track after the race. I think they need to liquidate the off road series and concentrate on what made them the organization that everyone wanted to race with. Unfortunately until they get the right people in the right positions in the upper levels of USAC nothing is going to change.

Man I hate to see another one cancelled. They really need to find a direction for this series. You can't expect teams to really invest much for around 10 races a year. Certainly won't attract many new teams. It isn't the premire series that it once was. Somebody needs to get it back there. Tough deal, but somebody needs to figure it out before it's too late.

As sad as it is to say I think it may be too late now. Because now you have track owners and promoters who are upset, you have car owners and drivers who are upset and to top it off the fans are upset. I am fairly certain that you can't have a race without any of those people ! It really isn't all that hard to figure out. Get the right people in the right positions. Bring Staab back and let him try to turn things around. He has been on both sides of the fence, car owner/driver and an official. I'm sure he hasn't forgotten what USAC used to be and I think he knows what it needs to be today. It needs to be a self supporting sanctioning body not an outfit with no direction that has to put up their own money to race at someones track.

With the right promotion and foresight in scheduling, they could run two shows at Indy and DuQuoin each year.
What about trying to get back to Sedalia for the Missouri state fair? Run the Silver Crown cars along with their popular MLRA late models |
