Coaches that could replace Sampson IMO....Yes I also think his days are numbered.
1. Ron Hunter ....IUPUI deserves a chance to coach a big time program 2. Dan Dakich..... as long as he is not mixed up in this mess. Now a asst. coach at IU, has head coaching experance and played for Bob Knight. Richard |

It's sad that a coaching mess like this is receiving so much attention in a year where there are some fantastic teams playing in Indiana. Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, Butler, and IUPUI are all very good teams, and the best part about it is that they are winning with IN-STATE talent. It certainly makes it clear that basketball is Indiana's past time and there is some incredible talent at the high school level here. Hummel, Martin, Johnson, Moore, and Kramer at Purdue. Graves, Howard, Campbell, Hahn, and Streicher at Butler. Gordon and Bassett at Indiana. Harrangody and Zeller (occasionally) at Notre Dame. All but 3 players on IUPUI's roster are from Indiana. The talent from Indiana is shining, but two controversial coaches (one that isn't even here anymore) unfortunately get far more attention. Matt Painter, Brad Stevens, Mike Brey, and Ron Hunter are all doing great things with their programs. Another Coach IU may want to consider when they can Sampson is already on their bench with Dakich, Ray McCallum. He was very successful at Ball State and knows how to recruit some of the great in-state talent.

I wonder if Quinn Buckner would be a possible contender as coach. He coached in the NBA a bit, although not all that successfully, but kids might actually listen to him and play hard for him at I.U. This could be a real good fit and he is still a real hero there from the '76 team that went undefeated. Alford is an interesting candidate but I think he would have already been there by now if it was in the cards. Plus, he didn't exactly set the world on fire at Iowa. Personally, I don't think he wanted the pressure of coaching at I.U. Knight's shadow at I.U. is so huge it is almost overwhelming.

The sooner they Fire sampson the better, If you look at IUs recruiting class for next year, they have some top prospects coming in and If we let this Sampson thing drag out and wait to fire him and then the NCAA decides to take away scholorships and or bans the team from post season play, you will se alot of these prospects back out of coming to IU, and who could blame them.
It is time to clean house NOW. I never thought I would say this but I might have to start cheering for the the Black and Gold Eric C |

Don't forget about another former IU player now coaching in Indiana. Dane Fife is the head coach at IPFW and is a young talent as well.
