Chris,

I just think the risk is to great to place squarely on the shoulders of the promoters when they already take such a great risk.

Is 3,000 an accurate count for a USAC race (not including Sprint Week)? If Lincoln Park & Bloomington would have not rained out would there have been 3,000 fans in the stands? Would there have even been 2,000?

If 3,000 is accurate do they all want to pay an extra $5? How many might find something else to do if USAC tickets are now $25-$30 per race.

Maybe we should try to get 500 people to voluntarily donate $5 each and then rethink it.

I agree more with Sandy, if YOU want to pay extra or can AFFORD to the then do so like the Wags deal. In case you haven't noticed the economy is in the toilet and people don't have extra money right now, in fact some cannot afford to go like they did just a year or 2 ago. It's hard enough right now for me to find the money 1-2 times a month to go to a special event like a big race let alone have to come up with extra monies to do so. Instead of charging an extra $5 and thinking about how that adds to the purse/bottom line think about it this way, at $25 a ticket if a promoter sells another 100 that's $2500 more, so 400 more people equals $10,000 more dollars. You're already getting about the max money out of race fans, it's time to build new fans and one way to NOT draw new fans is raise ticket prices, in fact you'll lose fans. $5 extra per race, that's $50 extra for 10 races or equal to 2 tickets at $25. To be honest, right now although it's a great thought to raise purses we cannot act like the government and keep raising costs will acting like nothing is wrong. Maybe someday, down the road, when things are better then maybe you can start raising prices SLOWLY, maybe a $1 per year or every 2 years.... now if you ask me once in a while to kick in like Wags Dash then I would IF I can afford it at the time. $25 is fair for a USAC race, go beyond that and it better be a damn special race, like $10,000 to win or a double header otherwise I know I can find good sprint car racing someplace close by for cheaper and not really notice all that much if there's a USAC logo attached or not......

Sandy,
You are on the money. One thing which is being assumed is that EVERY ONE of those 3,000 people would be willing to pay the $5 increase.
Not everyone will.
The gamble for the promoter is how many people will he lose and can the extra $5 offset the money that would be lost from those who choose not to come because the price went up? That includes hot dogs, hamburgers, cokes and beers. It might mean he actually makes less money. Most promoters have a pretty good idea of how much people will pay for a ticket.
And as far as sponsorship, for those of you who think it is so easy, I have a challenge. Pick a race team: ANY race team. Get their permission and go find them a sponsor. Then, come on here and tell everybody how it went.
It ain't that easy.
Jim

They were talking about how bad the payoffs were when I went my first race. They will be doing so long after I have my ashes sprinkled in the third turn of the Terre Haute Action Track.

USAC ANNOUNCES CONTINUED TORC PURSE INCREASES

Whoops I thought it wa sprints cars???

Indianapolis, IN. The United States Auto Club (USAC Racing), in conjunction with its corporate sponsors in the TRAXXAS Off Road Championship, today announced purse increases for the PRO-4x4 and PRO-2WD Divisions for the 2010 season.

Both PRO 4x4 and PRO 2WD competitors will be rewarded with weekend purses of $18,000 for the combined two-day race weekends. For PRO-4x4, that’s a 64% increase versus 2009 class purses, and for PRO-2WD we have increased purses by 100%” stated Kevin Miller, CEO of USAC Racing.

Additionally, the TORC Series announced a significant reduction for the PRO-4x4 and PRO-2WD class entry fees to just $750 per race weekend!

New for 2010, the Series will feature a new race format for line-ups. Races will no longer be lined up by points as done last year. The initial round of a 2-day event weekend will be aligned by qualifying times established each weekend. Round 2 will feature the first 6 finishers locked in, then inverted, for the feature event. The rest of the field will be established by the fastest lap during race action in Round 1.

The TORC Series makes its season debut in Antigo, WI June 5-6 for the Sportsman Divisions, and the Pro Series kicks off at the “Big House” in Crandon, WI on June 19-20.

Series sponsors include TRAXXAS, AMSOIL, Monster Energy, Kumho Tires, KMC Wheels, Oakley, Ford Trucks, and BF Goodrich Tires. Additional series sponsors and major announcements are expected as the season progresses.

USAC is the most diverse motorsorts organization in the country today, sanctioning Silver Crown, Sprint Cars, Midget Racing, .25 Quarter Midgets, Bonneville Salt Flat Land Speed records, Off Road racing, as well as partnerships with the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and the Fireball Run Adventure Rally.

“TORC OFF-ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP” FEATURES HISTORIC PRO-LIGHT SERIES PURSE IN 2010

Indianapolis, IN. The United States Auto Club (USAC Racing), in conjunction with its corporate sponsors in the TRAXXAS Off Road Championship, announce plans for an unprecedented Pro-Light Series season purse.

Traxxas, The Fastest Name in Radio Control,® has joined forces with TORC to raise the Pro-Light series purse to historic levels. Racers will be competing for the largest cash purse the Pro-Light class has ever experienced. Top spot on the podium for each race pays $5000, $2,500 for 2nd, $1,500 for 3rd, and continues to pay on down to the 10th spot.

There's also an additional $1000 Traxxas Maxx® Lap cash payout to the driver of the fastest lap. That makes each race weekend worth nearly $30,000 in cash rewards for the Pro-Light class alone. With six exciting racing venues, winning drivers in this class can enjoy the biggest purse structure ever offered by the series.

Additionally, the TORC Series announced a 50% reduction for the Pro-Light class entry fees to just $500 per race weekend! “Not only will drivers enjoy generous purse opportunities, they will also be able to compete for additional payouts all season long” said Kevin Miller, President of USAC.

Also new for 2010 is the limited and sealed V8 crate engine program announced in December that provides a low cost engine choice that can race equally alongside the current 4-cylinder power plants.

The TORC Series makes its season debut in Antigo, WI June 5-6 for the Sportsman Divisions, and the Pro Series kicks off at the “Big House” in Crandon, WI on June 19-20.

Boy, that $750 entry fee is great ain't it. Could you see guys paying that much to run anywhere around here for a sprint car race? Don't think so.

I also remember when the purse went against 40% of the gate. Of course that was when the Hoosier Hundred was the second highest purse on the true Champ car schedule.

$750 entry fee, I think a few owners on here wouldn't go along with that.....lol BUT they mostly have sponsers, TV coverage and so on so I'm sure the purse isn't what they race for moneywise.......

FYI-This is a similar thread on hoseheads. Note the weekly track payouts at Lincoln, Williams Grove and Knoxville. Not listed was Husets but I think they are similar also.

The thing is if you raise the price to $30. You raise the front gate the back gate will raise also. There are so many good tracks that have good sprint racing. Im not sure it becomes worth it to watch a race for $15 -$20 more. All your paying for is the name then. Because I cant tell ya a bad sprint race I ever saw. If ya want car counts say at a Track within so many miles of a Usac race be a no points race ( only if said track holds a Usac race that year ). I just know me an kids $30 a pop no way i go. I can go elsewhere an get all the results online. Thats just my opinion though.
