I couldn't agree more but for them to suggest the PPV, Lucas Oil, General Tire, and Dodge would be sponsors without the heavy NASCAR influence is simply laughable.

I'm also tired of hearing about how Jeff Gordon and ryan Newman somehow owe something to open-wheel racing simply because this is where they came from. Open-wheel racing didn't make Jeff Gordon famous, ESPN and Jeff Gordon, himself, made Jeff Gordon famous.
Sounds like you listen to too many Randy Moss interviews as he talks the same way.

So a person's past that gives them skills to perform at a higher level mean nothing and don't deserve some kind of payback?

That sounds a little egotistical to me.

Absolutely not. Open-wheel racing didn't do anything for Jeff Gordon. Open-wheel racing didn't win all those features, Jeff Gordon won' all those features. It was simply provided him the means to an end. That's all it ever was for Jeff Gordon: The means to an end.

It isnt like Jeff and Ryan sit back and do nothing with the money they make. Jeff has given and raised literally millions for Riley Childrens hospital here in Indy. Ryan has a foundation for animals and gives college scholarships every year along with donating to the Rich Vogler scholarship fund. Those things IMHO are much more valuable than owning a race team. I think its a bit egotistical of you to think you should have a say in where their money goes anyway. What do you with your money???? Is it any of my business???? No not any more than its your business what they do with theirs!!!!!!!!!!

Did I ever say in that post that they MUST or I think they should have to pay back openwheel? NO. I personally think a person should remember their roots. Openwheel racing (USAC mostly) gave them the oppurtunity to race and showcase their talents. The drivers they drove agains provided quality competition to compete against. Without that they wouldn't be where they are now. Or is this a case of people praising the 500 pound gorilla that has effectively help kill of USAC?

Gordon and Newman have shown no thanks to USAC for helping them with their careers now have they shown any interest in helping out other drivers coming up from USAC. What is Kenyon hadn't helped Gordon at IRP or half a dozen other tracks Mel helped him at?

The egotistical comment wasn't directed at Gordon or Newman but squarely at the poster who think a persons past means nothing to their future.
