My Saturday options are usually Lawrenceburg or Tri-State depending on what is running. If I lived further up north I would consider Montpelier at least once to check it out.

On most weeks that had a full feature depending on if another big race in the area was close. Jon Stanbrough won a ton of features that year in the Hazen sprinter. Burthay, Petty, and Reid were other winners and Weir won the track championship. They didn't have the track in shape in 2003 it is in now. They widened the track, and it looks to be progressive banking throughout. The Gas City crew resurfaced it, and track has been tacky, fast, and SMOOTH! It looks like Jiggs and the Gas City crew has been heavily involved in the operations and working of the track each week.

I think if the new promotor knew he could get to close to a full field of sprints, why wouldn't you try it?

I agree with you Don, but also L'Burg has only been drawing 20 to 23 cars on Saturday because most of the cars west and northwest of Indy have been going to Danville because it is closer, so I think it would be tough for Montpelier to get many cars.

I think I was there about every race in 2003. The racing was decent at best most nights. Nothing to write home about but I did see a lot of potential there. Being fairly close to the track was nice.

If that is true about what changes have or are occuring, I think it could be great having sprints run there. Just so many options on Saturdays, I have to wonder how many cars they could pull. Some of those team/driver combos are no longer around. If they could pull in 18-22 a week would be enough.

They do need better seating too.

Thats a fact.
Saturdays racing this week
LPS, Paragon, VCS. Terre, Burg, VCS Winged MASS, Illinois Sprintweek.
Its clear that money isn't the motivator in getting cars. What if they tried Inverting the payout? LOL

Montp. is far enough north that the best way to ensure some car count would be to run an MTS race and then see who from southern indiana shows up.....
