Favorite Auto Racing Quotes.

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

I would love to know who to contribute the following quote to, but this story was told to me by an older, wiser racer that my dad help get started 30 some years ago. I often think of this when I start to lose perspective and get frustrated with my place in the sprint car world...

A guy was leading the points of a series, blew an engine, and had to sit out for a few weeks to rebuild it. In the meantime, he lost the lead of the point championship. When he returned he was asked where he had been, and why he didn't throw something together to maintain his lead.

The driver thought about it for a second and said, "Well, taking food off your family's table doesn't make you more of a racer; it makes you less of a man."

2. Ken Schrader being interviewed after crashing his Cup car (mid 90's):

Pit reporter: Ken, the car looks pretty bad. Will your guys be able to make repairs and get you back out on the track?

Ken: mmmm, I'm afraid so.

3. Danny Sullivan after winning the '85 Indy 500 (in his Louisville drawl): "Oooh yeah, it's Miller time!"
(Miller beer was the sponsor)

4. Announcer interviewing Billy Cassella: Announcer says to Billy, "Do you have a chance of winning the race today? Billy says, "that's the whole reason for me showing up here today, buddy!"

5. Jack Hewitt after winning the Silver Crown race in Richmond, Virginia: "At least the fans can pronounce my name, not like those damn furners drivin' those Indy cars.

Foyt's autobiography is an entire book of quotes in itself!

Hey Kyle, my favorite quote involves Cottle, you and me leaving Lawrenceburg this year. I don't think this board could take it!

My favorite thing on a racecar.... Jimmy Light's dash (we'll see who recognizes where its from) "Prepare ship for ludicrous speed!!"

One night at Montpilier<sp? all the midget drivers were standing between the grandstands where we were setting, getting ready to take a collection for a fallen car owner. Sorry I forget his name, But Cottle drove his midget. Koonzee looked at all the drivers and turned around and said "thank god for power steering":rolling:.
