McCreadie injured at Chili Bowl: Earlier Wednesday, 2006 Chili Bowl champion Tim McCreadie was injured in a crash during a preliminary event of the Chili Bowl in Tulsa, OK [chilibowl.com]. McCreadie, 34, was leading a qualifying semifinal when something broke in his car's rear end. The car flipped violently and went over a fence. Examinations at a Tulsa hospital showed a fractured T3 vertebra and other damage. He was fitted for neck and back brace Thursday and was expected to consult with Dr. Terry Trammell, the renowned Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon. McCreadie won the 2006 World of Outlaws late model series championship. Although he has spent much of his career racing on dirt, in 2007 McCreadie competed in six NASCAR Nationwide Series events for Richard Childress Racing. Efforts were being made to set up a fund to assist McCreadie, who has no medical insurance, and offers of assistance with expenses have already started to come in from the racing community. For now, donations can be made to the U.S. Auto Club and sent to USAC c/o Tim McCreadie Support Fund, USAC, 4910 West 16th Street, Speedway, Ind. 46224

Not only is it hard to get insurance if you race it is nearly impossible to buy life insurance. They don't even want to put a clause in that it won't cover you if it happens racing they just flat out deny you.

When I had Lawrenceburg back in 1980-82 the insurance we carried was $10,000 death and dismemberment. There was also a token weekly payment for like 26 weeks if you couldn't work. It wasn't enough back then. I have no idea what they get nowadays. However, if you snuck in and didn't sign the waiver, you were absolutely denied coverage.

I kinda agree here, Im not possitive but I think that guy from STIDA was on Jackslash last night. Im not possitive but it sounded like as low as 425 dollars per year for up to a quarter million in insurance. Correct me if im wrong. Ok it say there is a 15,000 deductable which many tracks insurance would cover (Up to driver to make sure)

Get well Tim. I don't know how close your injury is to mine (I fractured same vertebre 15 years go.) Sneezing is the worst. YEOW!

Shane, back when my wife and I took out life insurance (when I was racing), I asked the agent about the racing and he showed us where after 2 yrs of paying the premiums, I was covered. If I got my @ss busted before 2 yrs, no coverage. Now, I quit in 1990. It may be a lot different now.

Greg, The biggest help I have found is a racer friendly Doctor. He knows where my neck isssues and my recently found fractured foot come from but he does a good job with the paperwork.

I guess the life insurance deal is a lifestyle deal. I was just looking for something in case something else happened not in a race car and had a hard time untill you go through a job place where they are dealing more with quanity. I usually join u.m.p. even though I don't run enough races to compete nationaly but they have like a $30,000 coverage for death. A lot of your sanctions have insurance available or included. I beleive your covered under the U.m.P. deal even if it is not a sanctioned show from my understanding.

Dude that is cold!! How will we be paying his bill? Tim was putting on a show for the fans we should be greatful and help out. I know lots of people without Insurance,most won't even cover racing anyways. A friend of mine was hurt last year doing some motocross and his agent said tough luck. Get well Tim.
