@ Danny Burton - My thoughts exactly when I read the thread subject!

We were racing at a TQ midget event years ago at Boswell (Indiana) and the jet car 'thrill event' scorched a bunch of people sitting in the grandstands. Not exactly the kind of souvenir you want to take home from the races...

I think the guy that jumped the car on roller blades was Tricky Truesdale, from Kentucky. His dad drove the car that pulled him. Saw him at Kalamazoo. I heard later he got $500 bucks for it. Oh yea, he already had his arm in a cast. This was in the 70's.

I would have to think a few things have contributed to the demise of the old thrill show....the one off stunts that people book tend to be a bit cheaper and more interesting to spectators, but I think the Xgames has been a big contributor to the lack of interest. I mean once you have seen some guy backflip a motorcycle across a 100 foot gap with all his limbs hanging off the bike do you really get excited by a couple cars doing zigzags and driving on 2 wheels?

Isn't Joie Chitwood III running Daytona Motor Speedway? Saw just last week he is heading up a huge improvement project aimed at updating what is now and old race track.
