Big 100 lap feature.... qualify the mods! Might be more attractive to guys hauling several hours knowing they have a "say" in where they start, rather than pulling something out of a bag.

How could it be luck of the draw when you're going out and driving the car for your starting position. Put down a good lap, end up with a good spot. Or mess it up and start in the back.
Andrew... Modifieds qualify different than the Sprint cars do.
They pill draw for groups... Group 1, 2, 3, 4... Group 1 races Heat #1, Group 2 races Heat # 2. All the drivers in Group 1 only qualify against the other drivers in Group 1, they are not qualifying against the entire field. Qualifying is used to lineup heat races.
After the heat races are completed, the lineups (for B-main & A-main) are set based on the results of the heat races and I think the top 8 drivers draw for starting spots in feature.
I can explain it better talking than typing...
During USAC events... what you are talking about applies. The driver who pill draws last normally has a slower track than the guy qualifying early.
I prefer this group qualify method much better. There is less change in the racing surface between let's say 8 cars than there is between 40 or 50 cars.
Some guys don't like it because if they have a flat tire in a heat race they are starting in the back of the B-main.
Or another complaint is that all the top dogs draw the same group.
I like seeing the faster guys battling amongst themselves rather than watching one guy start on the front row... pull away and win while the other guys are battling thru slower cars just to get into the feature.
