You know, I would really like to see that Springfield guy in the car, but to confirm, here is the press release about Jeff Simmons and the Foyt # 41: http://www.indycar.com/news/?story_id=11314

So did Larry Foyt get fired before he ever got a chance to take a lap or was he never planning to run and just entered as a seat filler on the entry list?

If the 14 and 41 get secured in the field on Saturday then will he field one of the back up cars for Larry?

This is a little off topicbut, can someone explain to me how qualifying works at Indy. Mainly, if someone puts up a faster time then the pole sitter on this Saturday, does he still only start 12th?

You are correct the first 11 including the pole were set last Saturday

Positions 12-22 were to be set on Sunday but there was the rain out Now matter how fast you go you will never be able to start infront of someone that qualified on a prevous day

This Saturday position 23-33 will be set (12-33 due to the rain out on yesterday) After all 33 positions have been filled cars will be bumped out of the field

The way the bumping works is the slowest car in the field is removed from the field regardless of starting start and the new car is placed in the correct spot with THAT DAYS qualifiers

The pole sitter could be removed from the pole if 33 cars on bump day go faster then the pole sitter (It has never happened and most likely will never happen but it could)

Well , Thank You very much ! ... I do appreciate that !:respect:

Please keep in mind that these are the stories that I can publish here ...
There are others that are more interesting that involve the night before the "500" at the former Speedway Motel ( 1973 ) , some evenings spent on Georgetown Road and down on the corner of 16th & G'town ( where there was a White Castle back in those days ) , a trashed rental car and going to some "clubs" with Salt Walther & Crew ! A wild time was had by all !

Robin Miller once said that Salt was the all time least talented Indy driver of the modern era ... probably not , but , Salt was the champ of making a party where there wasn't supposed to be one ! :O:

I always liked the guy , but then again I liked Kevin Cogan and the Whittington Brothers , too ! :thumb
