Let's not get all high-wired about "what we will say to the kids". I'll give you the ABCs on that right quick. I clicked on DO's video just now, and my son came running because he heard sprint cars on the audio. He sat with me and we watched the whole ranting, raving, lunatic fringe freakout. At every turn, my 6-year old boy kept asking "Why did he do that?" I said to every question "Because he is an idiot." That was followed by "Because he is a total idiot." and "Because that driver, in that green car, is a complete and total idiot, and he needs to go away." By the end of the six minute video, my son left the room after it was done saying "Dad, that guy in the green car is an idiot. We shouldn't root for that guy." And I said "That's right, he is. And that's absolutely right, we won't."
Problem solved. Crisis averted. My son's morality not only protected, but strengthened. Now, anytime he might see some other half-wit numbskull putting his feeble concerns over every single other person's, I fully expect my son to need NO prompting by me to speak up right away and say "That guy is an idiot."
So Thank You, Memmer. That's what we parents call "A Teachable Moment."
And I didn't even have to drive the distance across state lines to sit through it while getting eaten up by bugs and dusted over.

Et tu, Steve? I find this so completely ironic that while I was writing my post, this was being written just 30 yards from me next door. Couldn't you have just said, "being an idiot", and refrained from terms like "half-witted numbskull"...? Geez.

Oh, and for the record, I totally agree with the "teachable moment" aspect of your post. That is precisely the way to approach it. The rest of it? Eh...

Whatever. I guess it's a difference of opinion. I just see no need to pile on. I think the video speaks for itself, and John, upon seeing it will likely wish to alter his approach the next time. Last night, while packing up his truck, he did reach out to apologize to the folks that run the track. I think he realizes his folly. I don't believe he is an idiot, or crazy, or any such thing. He just lost his cool. We've all done it. That doesn't make us bad humans, it doesn't make us half-wits, or anything like that. It just makes us human.

"So before you go and make up your mind...
If Christ came knocking on your door,
Dressed up like the devil, would ya let him in?
I am a Christian; I am a Buddha;
Hari Krishna, I am a Jew.
I am Satan, have Zen within me;
I have Jesus, I am human." - Sammy Hagar, 'Sympathy for the Human'

Nice posts Steve and Dean. I was there and I do not condone Mr. Memmer's actions. With that being said I have a problem with MSCS officiating. Remember this is the group that brought the 2 hour feature to Terre Haute. Didn't Terre Haute also have some drama over calls by officials. This was my first MSCS race since Haubstadt last year win the winner spun and was given his spot back, and I was not impressed. Congrats to Jon Stanbrough on the win and thank you to Mr Memmer and Mr Spiker for taking the time to talk to us in the parking lot.

Watching this video, I ask the question of why were they lining up John behind the car that clearly shows in the part that Hunter and Triplett getting close and Triplett bringing out the caution. The car they are trying to line up in front of John is clearly a straightaway behind John when the caution come out. Can someone clarify? Or was this a scoring error?

Believe me I don't condone or think this video is funny by any means.https://www.indianaopenwheel.com/ima...e_blackeye.gif Note to John, if you get screwed on a lineup, saddle up and use that frustration on driving to the front and making a point. Nothing is more satisfying than going up to a scorer and telling them they screwed up and then asking them were you start in the feature. Then remind them they need to sharpen their pencil for the feature!

So,what happened to start all of this? What made him go postal? Thats what I want to know? The video doesn't show what started it. What happened to get him so fired up like that? Not that there anything that would or should condone his actions but heres a good question, if he gets suspended from any future MSCS shows but apologozes on IOW does get to race next week??? LOL... Heard at the truck stop last night that MSCS would have a meeting on Monday to talk about this.
Steve Eckert makes a good point in the fact of a 6 minute video. I recorded and posted what I shot so there is another 3 to 4 minutes that I didn't record that the fans had to put up with inside the track. That does count the time the spent in the pits they spent sorting torsion bars.

Fans who didn't know who John Memmer was do now after that yank the crank for the stands.

So,it started with a line up miss-call??There has got to be a reason why he felt that strong about what was happening....Again he did not use the best judgment but as a racer emotions tend to get the best of us in the heat of the moment but there has got to be a spark that fired him up....John Gurley

Rule Book States The First Offense you are reprimanded and allowed to race under a watchful eye. I read the rule book, thus Robert was allowed to race....I assume this is how it will fall with Memmer...

Oh and yea.. if he is is suspended... he should def. come race with SCORA give you a even 3 rows.. 3 x 2 carry the one drop the y and...ok math come on math don't fail me.. oh yea an even 6 cars.
