Smith19, that was the dumbest thing I've ever witnessed on a race track (other than some idiot shooting onto the race track in front of traffic) and by "my" definition it was a slide job. He had no chance of making it and they had 1st & 2nd locked up. $15 grand down the tubes (plus two bent race cars). He should've been tied to a tree and whipped.

My father and I were the mechanic's on the car that Lealand was driving that night,Thou Lealand wasn't happy about the incident he handled it like the gentleman that he is when Jack came over to our pit and apologize profusely for making such a move to both me and my father as well as to Lealand. Since all of us were friends anyway there wasn't a whole lot of tension in the air at the time, plus I've seen Jack fight before (lol)! :icon_smile_blackeye

Jack did say that we all should be beating the hell out of him for what happened, but we all knew it was just two Rim Riders racing hard for the victory:checkered:

The very next season at Eldora during the CRA race,Haud pulled the same move on Lealand only this time Lealand saw it coming and backed off and turned back under Jac to get to see Jac slam the wall and flip back over the top of him in just about the same place that Lealand and Hewitt had crashed the year before. This time the results were a whole lot better for us as we ended up winning the race.
There again it was just two gasser's going for the win:checkered:

Like smith 19 said,That's just the way those guys raced each other every night!!:respect::respect::respect:

Levi's heat race at Kamp last year was a thing of beauty, I don't care if you like slide jobs or not.:Steer:thumb

[Quote]I don't know how many guys I heard say that he ran in just the perfect spot that they didn't feel comfortable going to either side of him. [Quote]

He didn't quite run the perfect spot that last event at da stadt. That was an example of a slider gone wrong as he almost went out of the park. But he is one of the best of knowing where to put the car (that was just a rough night).

As for the topic of whether slide jobs are right or wrong, well I’m not one to decide. I do know one thing, the fact is its apart of dirt racing now and it’s not going to stop and if you don't like it go watch the 24 hrs @ daytona.

I respect Dave a ton for what he's done in his career and he's always been a great guy to talk to but I too noticed the same thing from him as well. Two occassions come to mind one of which I was there at the track. Dave tried that move on DC at the Sprint Week race at Haubstadt but Daron turned back under him the next lap and passed him with a diamond. At the MSCS finale at the Burg, Dave passed Ricky Williams late for third doing the same move. My dad told me that when we were at Haubstadt the week before, a guy he was sitting beside said Dave didn't use to drive like that until all these young fast guys came along.

Oh man that heat race with Hud Cone that was a good one! I think Dave just drove it in too hard and biked it which is easy to do at Haubstadt.

And yes sliders are here to stay whether you like them or not.

I didn't mean it as anything against Dave....he is one of my favorites and still is the classiest guy I can think of....but these days, the competition level is so high and it's so cutthroat, everybody has to push pretty hard or they get left behind! Ya know, I was just describing the sprint car races during Midget Week at Gas City, Bloomington, Lawrenceburg, and Kokomo as some of the most textbook "Darland" drives I saw all year. He has probably been the benchmark of my lifetime watching sprint cars and midgets, and I love to watch him work...

That was a perfect exhibition in clean sliders. Clearing guys and moving forward. I will say that none of them were the Bonzai moves. I seen him do it and do it cleanly many times thruout last season.

The slider Of all Sliders I've seen was probably about the 90 Hoosier fall classic where PUP Did a monster slider on Kelly Kinser to win. .

I was at the Eldora McSpadden/Hewit and I agree, it was the biggest mistake I think i've ever seen. I bet McSpadden spun in the air pinwheeling ten times in the fence. I have no idea how neither were hurt bad and Jack was more than apologetic and willing to take what he had coming instead of running for the hauler.

That video which I posted in another thread of Jon/Clayton are exicuted nicely and when Jon couldn't clear him he held it down. No quarter was expected and none was given. I think both raced against each other enough to predict what was happening and how to counter the move..

That mention from Spridge on Darland knowing how to keep his car wide I ditto with Jon. I've seen guys faster than Jon but not be able to get around him and it's not like Jon was throwing them a wheel or something.

Chuck, Exicuted well and clean is one thing. Stupidity is another.
