The goverment may not get involed but I am sure the Insurance companys will start setting standard for everybody.and we better hang on. I started racing when I was 9 and raced I got hurt in midget 1982 I have no regrets. And racing owe me nothing! As family it ws great time with great friends.

It sucks and I hate to see it, but that is and always has been part of the sport of racing. I don't understand how his death is any different than any other childs. Racetrack,backyard, swimming pool,bathtub, etc..etc..etc It's all the same to me.

By the way,this could of and can happen at ANY racing event, anywhere at anytime. No part of this sport is immune to the ultimate risks the sport can deal out.

Instead of being worried about the kid that died, people should be worried about the kid who hit him. He has to live with that for a very long time.

I agree but the difference is this was much more visible than a kid getting killed flipping a bike or ATV in his parents back 40. Plus the talking heads have been pounding it on the media all week.

As someone pointed out the talking heads are and will have a field day with this. Having said that I feel we have been moving into dangerous waters. especially when we let youngsters of this age compete against adults in any form of motorsports. Yes, I am aware that this event was for the age group of 12-18. Would you want your 80 pound 13 year old going up against a 200 pound 18 year old in football or baseball; most likely not,even though the ultimate results of an injury are usually not life threatening. While it is true that government often oversteps its bounds into our daily lives and more, there is also a place for it sometimes. I for one do not want to do away with the FAA in the aircraft world. Lastly, we often talk about growing our sport; if you really want to set it back or even perhaps have people wanting it banned then just wait until there is young person fatally injured while competing with adults. In a time not so long ago youngters worked there way through quarter midgets and upon reaching 18 ventured into the adult worrld of competition. Seemed to work for Pancho Carter and many others. As to the Jeff Gordon thing of years ago, I put that right there with parents sending teenagers to sail single handed round the world, balloon boy, and others. Parental exploitation of children and often putting a whole industry at risk for their own personal desires.
