That is very low, right around $95,000 8 years ago. Very tough for a promoter, because of the high ticket prices you would have to charge to even break even.

from what I understand, both of you are pretty light on your guesses. I understand why promoters can't afford the up front $$$$. Don't blame them.

I have no idea how much it costs to bring the Outlaws in but they had over 70 dates on their schedule this year. So somebody can afford them. The minor leaguers (USAC) had just over 40 dates on their schedule. Not to mention the WoO actually have a decent payout. 7 of the top 8 teams in points have made over $100,000 already, with the top 2 over $200,000, and that doesn't include the big Knoxville purse. That's quite a bit better than the peanuts that the USAC teams are forced to race for.

Even with those kind of earnings, I would bet most teams have not come close to breaking even. As Karl Kinser said it isn't how much you make, it's how much you keep.

I would think that with the national type sponsors that most of the top WoO teams have that most are doing ok. But they get those type of sponsors because they race before so many more fans from coast to coast. Unfortunately, USAC has shrunk to being barely a regional type series so most of their teams can barely get local sponsors.

Just out of curiosity, how many outlaw shows at how many tracks do you attend? They priced me out a long time ago. I was at Knoxville and Osky and talked to people from both tracks and they were very impressed with the USAC shows. To each his own, enjoy what you like.

As many as I can, if it's within driving distance and I can get away I'll go. So far this year I have been to Las Vegas, Volunteer Speedway, I-55, Eldora, Attica, I-96, Lasalle (IL) and Lima to see them. Don't get me wrong I enjoy non-wing racing too. The Outlaws are just my favorite. Believe it or not there are those of us who enjoy both styles. Most Friday nights I'm at Gas City and I go to Putnamville or Paragon on Saturdays 9 or 10 times a year. My big problem with non-wing racing is USAC. From my experience over the last 40 years is if there is a way to screw something up USAC will find it. I feel sorry for the teams and drivers that have stayed loyal to that organization. 40 years ago they were the most powerful organization in motorsports. Now, other than in Indiana, nobody knows or cares who they are and non-wing racing has paid the price.

With all their faults, I don't ever remember their equiptment being repossessed, or any checks bouncing. I can not say the same for the Outlaws. Maybe not recently, but it has happened.
