Ok so I am the negative idiot here, so enlighten me. How is this going to work? Its alot of fun to watch 18-20 midgets run around this place. A driver learns alot when they encounter the traffic at this joint. I'm not interested in watching 10 car fields roll around. Then listen to PR people crown champions out of this 10 car field and put them in the ranks with guys like Vogler. No one has done ANYTHING at that track in the last few years to be mentioned in the same breath as Vogler. So come on Harry and Seabold tell me what I am missing, and that this insn't going to be just some winter hype, with the first show everyone on here saying how disapointing the car count was. :30: Thanks For The Help in Advance Mr. Negative

The USAC/Don Kenyon split has not had very much notice because it happened quietly. I post this because I am a friend of Don and Mel Kenyon, and they supply all the tires for my races. DK would never bring any controversy to a message board.
I deleted the story I posted here about the USAC/Kenyon deal because I thought better of it. I am concerned about how this impacts DK Promotions. I will leave it to others that know the situation to post about it. Any news on what Don will do in 2010? I will say that I have always been and remain a fan of the Kenyons. DK will do just fine because he loves the sport and the people. It is not ALL about business to the Kenyons! I thought that you had a series at the Speedrome this year TB, was it a one year plan, or does that mean USAC is moving in on your promotions and plans as well?? Do they have their own ideas or do they always just take over other peoples hard work. I guess maybe that is why they are now in QMs. Does anyone know???
I can see it now, USAC presents The Tumble in Ft. Wayne!! Get your tickets now!!!!

Race Poor...I had a HUGE rant all teed up on this thread a couple times...But hey..I am taking ANGER MANAGEMENT courses...lololol...Almost have it under control....
![]() So I deleted my rant..and just have these observations... I gave the Speedrome a good shot...alas...I declined to negotiate to return..leaving it open. 767 and others here know what they are talking about. It seems that USAC is following in my tracks these days...the facts are...They took the USAC Midget Week date I had..promoted themselves...(At least I missed their rainout) I co sanctioned with Wolverine earlier this year ( that didn't work out...not because I didn't try.) I had a mini series at the Speedrome with Midgets and QM's The above must just be a co-incidence... I wish USAC best of luck in these promotions...They are going to need it. I hope Don Kenyon has even more luck. I am just moving on to other promotions. Best, Tony Barhorst rumbleseries.com Promoting Midget Racing Since 1998

Since Seadog and Harry can't seem to give me any indication on how this is going to work I will fill all of you in on why this will not work. I feel bad for not giving Mr. Barhoist more info before he struck his deal. For you that do not know, I am a promoter. No open wheel stuff, but still do fair events. This info comes from 2 different groups that held events at the Speedrome. So here we go, The owner of this track will not do anything to make you event sucessfull. He has no intrest in you suceeding. The first group that did events there, did them on a Sunday. They set up a typical agreement. Basically track has to be left in the same shape and clean. The track raced on Friday an Saturday. When this group got there on Sunday, none of the trash had been cleaned up. After there event they cleaned part of the trash up and left. They were denied there deposit back because they did not clean the entire speedway. They were expected to clean all 3 nights of trash up. This is petty, but think about how much trash that is for 3 nights. O ya they were also charged a disposal fee because the threw the bags in the tracks dumpster. There was no permission given to use it. Now if they do things this petty, how do you think they handle the larger stuff? If the tracked wanted usac there the event would be on friday night like I stated earlier. The track has no intrest in this because they would have to pay usac. The track will not run midgets on friday nights because they do not get enough fans to make profit. This track is dieing under the current managment. Nothing is going to change. They have already ran off over half there drivers and fans. If usac is not going to put some big PR behind this, it is DOOMED! I seen the rumble series stuff in the news paper, in local businesses, and on the radio. Race 1 there was a good field of cars with about 2 or 3 hundred fans. The other races fell off. Not sure what usac is going to do, but they have an uphill battle ahead of them.
The ball is your court Seadog and Harry, tell us how the great usac is going to make this work. How are the "reginal midgets" going to be sucessful? Mr. Negativity |

I have had only one direct interaction with the Speedrome. It was not pleasant. We did a special event there that brought in several motorsports celebrities and brought some great exposure to the speedrome and to Midget racing. Never the less, our guests were not treated well, additional funds were virtually extorted from our sponsors as the event was going on under threat of having the program shut down on the spot, and the gooks that ran security seemed to take particular pleasure in threatening to physically throw the likes of Larry Rice and Bob Jenkins out of the place, just because they could. I found the management there to be short sighted and counter productive in the extreme.
I think they are the PERFECT match for USAC...... ![]() |

This thread is a perfect example of why I find myself on IOW less and less.
Some people seem to base their whole existence on throwing people, tracks, or sanctioning bodies, etc. under the bus at every opportunity just because they may have gotten their feelings hurt and the just can't let it go. Pick yourself up, dust your self off, and move on. Life is too short so miserable. If you are so unhappy about all this - my advice is do something else that will make you happy. Oh yeah, as some of you may know, I'm a USAC fan - so ![]() |
