With the ever slowing and poor economy, I am sure this played a role in Joe's decision to cut the VCS season short. He loves racing as much as the rest of you. Not one of us with the poor economy could afford to run a race track if we had to pay out of our pockets to make up for lower attendance and car counts, and Joe should not be expected to do this either. Remember this is a business decision also, and we must respect him for this, and look forward to a Great 2010.
I'll take the blame for Little Springfield and Manzanita closing too......

Look in Ca: for years John Padjen and now his son, runs two tracks, two series, and runs one of the biggest sprint car races in the country. It can be done.

Everyone was having good car counts on Sat nights, switching it to Sundays would have been even better for most......it traditionally was a Sunday track anyway, but with Kokomo the only area track running Sprints and hardly no one else in Illinois running UMP type stuff, the pits would have been full. So Duke, there is not too much sprint car racing. If there is a car count problem, its because the cars are sitting at home.......and almost everyone knows someone that has a car and not racing.
But none of that rehash seems to be the problem with VCS shutting down. It was stated because of "circumstances beyond our control". And those have not been addressed yet. Maybe something was said at LPS last night, but according the local paper, Joe Spiker wouldn't answer their calls. We could all speculate, but I asked a direct question and have yet to get an answer either.
Kylenap is correct in saying running 2 tracks can be done, Don Hammer does it at Farmer City and Lincoln IL, 60 miles west of VCS. And there are probably countless others who do too, but there must be other "circumstances"....maybe his wife doesnt like it, maybe the fairboard threw a monkey wrench in it somehow, or his help, and partners......I don't know, but participants, fans and sponsors deserve a rational explanation.

Steve
