St Mary's Speedway in Missouri. That's where my father drove in his first race. I was there as an infant but do not remember it. Syracuse mile I'm lucky enough to have spent many nights at Little Springfield. Some watching some driving.

How could I have left off the Nutley Velodrome? Some of you mentioned Atomic in TN. I was lucky enough to see the All Stars there many years ago. It had rained and the air was humid. Track was crazy fast. Joey Saldana turned like 9.9 in time trials. I think it was a third mile. Rick Nichols told the promoter it was the best surface he had seen in years. Feature got rained out.

I was fortunate to see one late model race there in 1997, Saturday night before Labor Day weekend. Myself and a buddy went to Atomic and were heading to Darlington and the Southern 500 the next day. We drove all night to Darlington and my about 5am, my buddy said let's stop at a truck stop to take a shower. Freshened up, we proceeded to Darlington to see Jeff Gordon win the Winston Million race. And of course, we drove home all night so I could get to the US Nationals drag races on Monday. That was a racing weekend for sure. |
