26 sprints, 17 midgets, 13ish tqs..we didnt get a lot of info on the tqs #14 won i think it was ron combs..Shane Cottle led most of the sprint car feature but Aj Hopkins was able to reel him in and steal it on the last lap from 8th..Chris Gurley also started deep and finished in the top 10. Shane won the midget feature.

I see you guys had an excellent open wheel race program last night. I sure hope the grandstands were as full as the pits were and maybe even some new blood to experience the thrill of watching real open wheel racers compete on a dirt Bull Ring race track. This is to me is the actual true and honest form of racing.
Thanks for the updates they were appreciated. Keep up the good work and support these tracks that are trying to revive grass roots open wheel racing in Indiana. Honest Dad himself ![]() ![]() |

Cottle was gone right off the bat. Led most of the way. With about 10 laps to go, I noticed C.J. Leary, who came through the B Main and started the Feature somewhere back around Ft. Wayne, was running 8th, or so, and picking 'em off. Then he went over the berm on Turn 1, lost pretty much everything he gained, but kept going. Josh Spencer was having a good night in the Half Moon wagon. He had a good draw in the heat and a good draw in the Feature. Better yet, he was making the best of it. Hats off, young man. Hats off. That car is a fan favorite thanks to you guys, and especially Jerry for promoting it like you do week in and week out on the forum. But Cottle was on it. He only had one issue as he was running a high groove - Todd Keen was tip toeing around the very bottom and inching on up lap after lap. With about 5-6 to go, Keen had his right front under Cottle's left rear coming out of the corners, but "The Throttle" was pulling him down the straights. To add oddity to the matter, the announcer kept referring to Keen as Scotty Weir. The cars are a lot alike, but I thought I was going out of my mind for I was sure it was Keen in 2nd and not Weir. Anyways, with about three to go, Cottle did what any smart leader would have done - dropped down to protect the low line, stopping Keen's progress. Now the lapped traffic was a factor. A.J. Hopkins, who was 3rd, went upstairs and was closing fast. Cottle was slowing Keen. With two to go, Hopkins had a great run on them coming out of Turn 2, but was balked by a lapped car. Coming to the white flag through Turn 4, A.J. split a lapped car in the high groove and Cottle and Keen down low, and all went down the front stretch three wide. A.J. threw it into Turn 1 and got around Shane and Todd, then sailed off down the backstretch in the lead and off into Gas City history. It was fanTAStic! C.J. Leary...... he came back to finish 9th. Amazing. Jerry Coons, Jr., had a good Feature run, too, after having probs in hot laps. And as stated earlier, Chris Gurley - thumbs up. Of course, this was only MY point of view. Someone else might have a more exciting one. |
