I live just less than three hours drive from RIR. I have yet to see any promotion for next weekends events. No radio, no TV, no print.

I was in Richmond last weekend attendiing a race at Virginia Motor Speedway. Unless I already knew, I'd have no idea that the IRL was coming, much less USAC.

Likewise, the Carolina Ford Focus Midgets were supposed to start their Wednesday nights at the Concord Motorsports quarter-mile with a practice and racing is supposed to begin next Wednesday. Nothing to be found anywhere except the track website and all it says is "times t.b.a.". Again, zero promotion.

Got to agree that traffic on the interstates has decreased (as soon as you get away from the cities). On the way home from Virginia last weekend, I was the only car on the road for a loooonnnggg stretch of I85. No truckers, no cars, just me. And most of the truckers have slowed down to under 65.

Alkymadness, Living in Phoenix I have shared your thoughts often before a USAC or IRL race, no media coverage, no advertising.

Scott Passmore from Channel 3 news is the one exception, Scott is a racer at Manzy, he gives both Manzy and PIR as much coverage as he can.

My neighbors have attended the Copper World Classic for years, now they have no idea USAC is coming to town until I tell them.

To the car owners or their representatives that have posted your teams plans for next weekend "Thank You".

From what we are hearing from other owners 15 cars is the real number that are going to show. I had thought 20 or so but 5 of them are staying home. What will be the fallout if only 15 cars show.

15??? The quick response would be: avoid the negative fallout and pull the plug now.

But, how many sprints will there be? If that car count approaches 30 and has a full field, keep the Saturday portion with SC. Most of the drivers will already be there and all but the handful of fans that know what's going on with USAC will just think this is a continuation of last year's small fields when it comes to the SC.

Truth is, most fans are out in the parking lot tail-gating when the SC is running trying to stay cool and liquidly refreshed.

However, if the sprints also have a count below 20, I'd consider pulling the plug on the whole deal. But, I suppose it's too late to do that seeing as Richmond has been selling tix for Friday night for a long time. Doubt they've sold many since everyone waits to see what the weather will do, but RIR would not be happy.

So, how many sprints are planning on being there?

I fired off Mario Marietta's pavement sprint car on Sunday morning so they could check it out before loading it up for the trip to Richmond.

There were 21 new generation SC cars for their last race in Phoenix.

If car count is not up maybe USAC should "redesign and revalute" the old cars too.

Look for Hollingsworth in a new Nolen mobile.
