Charlestown is a 1/4 mile slightly banked clay oval, right on hwy 3. Its just South of Scottsburg.

Charlestown Speedway is a neat little track. about the right size for Full size Midgets or their little brothers the 1000cc or 1200cc midgets.
It started out probably 25 or 30 years ago as a dirt track running mostly dirt stock cars (it is southern Indiana) They have however also hosted several WOL races back in the early days.

New promoters came in and PAVED it and ran several years like that before closing it down. It layed vacant for several years and was bought by some motorcycle people. They ripped up the asphalt and turned it into a Motor-cross track, that lasted about 5 years and it again went back to seed.

A new guy got hold of it this year I think his name is Brian Stummler, he is a heavy equipment guy and he returned it back into a dirt track, I don't think it has as much bank as the old track but it is plenty wide.

For open wheel cars he might have to work on his wall a little bit, you do not want to go off the track between turns 3 and 4, It's a long way down.

We wish them the best of luck. I miss a dirt track around Louisville It's about 20 mile out of Louisville going up Indiana 62 to Charlestown taking a left at 3 and it is about 1/2 mile outside Town just past the Charlestown Hospital.

According to promoter, Tim Kelley, they ran a Joe James/Pat O'Connor Memorial in the late 70s.

Could someone tell me the diffrence between AMSA - MMSA and the UMRA and MTQRL. Were looking at getting started in the open wheel from karts but not entirely sure the diffrence between the series. I pretty educated on the UMRA and MTQRL and know they are same car just different sanctioning body but if some one could explain the AMSA and MMSA to me. We live in North Vernon so there schedule is definetly benefical to us.
