From where I was sitting near turn 1, I saw the 2 incidents slightly differently. In the heat race incident, the green light was turned off,but the yellow never came on. The lights all remained dark until the red was displayed, some (15-20?) seconds later. The incident on lap 7 of the feature was an almost identical senario. The signal lights went
off but the red light did'nt come on until after Saldana passed under the flag stand, where the starter stood, waving his bare hands, NO FLAG. Saldana was able to slow considerably before passing the crash scene. If he hadn't, I doubt he could have avoided Dover's wreckage. I was told, after the race, by one of the officials, that the disqualification was because Saldana's Raciever was not operating, but he couldn't explain why that problem wasn't addressed during the red flag stoppage.
I have been a regular at USA since moving here, from the midwest, about 2 years ago, and I have often wondered why they don't put a second person on the flag stand,as Jason can't seem to handle it by himself.

We were there at turn one and saw the whole thing.
The light went from green to Nothing...all out.
Only after the second car passed the non-existent red (that car was not blackflagged and went on to win) did the red light go on.
The track announcer lied and said Saldane ignored the red light.
We could not believe Saldana was blackflagged.
The flagman should have been sent home for good.
We took the capture to Saldana's rig and no one would give us an email to send the event to.
An elderly gentleman said USAC would not do anything.
A man with dark glasses to my son to the USAC trailer on a scooter.
A lady there said all the other cars stopped and saw that red light.
The first tow cars were a straightaway ahead of the field so that mean nothing.
No one said a thing about radioes.
A smaller elderly gentleman asking my son to leave the crowd and show him the capture.
He then went to the lady and said they have to fix this.
All those drivers were in jeopardy because of that parody of comedic errors and coverups.
I could seldom understand the announcer and can only guess how their radios system worked.
If USAC is going to rely so much on radios, they should stop using the lights.
SALDANA GOT RIPPED OFF IN TUCSON BY USAC.
If someone wishes the capture to view for themself, send me an email at willamettespeedwayfan@msn.com.
I'll be glad to send them one.

Sorry if I was in error. We were told at the gate the non-winged were ASCS and the winged USAC.
Now I don't know who was at the trailer, but they said they were in charge.
So I guess Saldana was blackflagged for non working radio, not ignoring the red light as the announcer was saying
and the lady at that trailer too.
If those radios are so important they can check prior to a race and confirm.
If they use the radio more than the lights, radios can be checked at any red flag that is really a red light.
This radio stuff came out after we showed the video and offered to put it on You Tube.
If Saldana was warned prior to the incident, was his radio checked just prior to the race,
or not until after the false red light episode and their realizing a video actually existed?
I have no idea. Maybe it wasn't even Saldana under that hood.

It actually hurts Joey's case more than it helps it (or has zero effect), when there's someone making public accusations towards USAC, that doesn't know any better than to believe it when someone tells him that the winged race he is at is sanctioned by USAC. Or that expects anyone to believe that the ASCS officials mistakenly thought that USAC was sanctioning the event. Either way, the guy joined the board just to make this case.

If you read my post above, you see my description of the Saldana incident is very similar to what Racefan13 described. After the races were over, I "suggested" to Jason(the starter) that he admit the error, and also that management consider putting an assistant on the flagstand with him. Now I sincerely doubt I had anything to do with the subsequent decisions, but on Sat. there was an assistant starter, and Joey was added to the A main as a promoters option.
