I too am a great proponent of non wing sprint racing. Unfortunately the St Louis metro does not have the non wing culture to support it. There are neither the cars nor the fans necessary. Zeromotorsports' post "st louis sprint car drivers" illustrates the lack of cars. A glance at stlracing.com's forums shows the lack of enthusiasm for any race car devoid of fenders and doors. The hand full of IL/MO drivers who will run wingless were not enough to sustain Jacksonville Speedway's wingless weekly shows, SCORA or ASCT. MSCS once had some races in Illinois. Grain Valley Speedway near Kansas City runs an open non wing 305, 360, 410 weekly show and cannot get a 20 car field. Farmer City and Danville have the location to draw Indiana cars and make a go of it. We have supported non wing racing at every opportunity only to have it crumble away prior to the season's end. Our optimism still outweighs our pessimism. It is always nice to mount up some DT-3s and leave the wings in the shop.

I would love to have a nonwing track within two hours. I was able to make it to Danville in about that amount of time, but the closest track to Springfield now is Terre Haute at over 150 miles. Kokomo and Haubstadt are 240, Putnamville a little under 200, Bloomington a little over 200. I hope the new group in Missouri have great success. Perhaps this will lead to more races at Granite City, and perhaps even lead to another nonwing Illinois Sprint Week.

stlracing.com is stock car heavy simply because it's run by Jimmy Dearing, photographer at Tri City and Pevely.

I'm from STL, and I'd like to think I've done my part to support non-wing racing.

St. Louis is stock car heavy, we run non wing. I know the Dobb's in Edwardsville run non wing. I'm not sure other than the 2 of us if there is any non wing sprints in the metro St. Louis area
Weyants and Blands from Springfield will go non wing racing
Sure wish there was an answer because we have to tow a minimum of 3-1/2 hours to race, whoever said Flora was 2 hours from STL hasn't towed a rig over there.

What if st.francois county raceway, jacksonville, and MOWA would just ditch the wings?

I would love a 3 race weekend for USAC & MSCS at farmington I55 and Granite City Make it worth wild for teams to travel there instead of just for 1 race

The St. Louis area seems to support the Powri midgets pretty well. I think it is pretty safe to say that a few non-wing races sprinkled in would be well received. In the past I have seen USAC and NWWC at Tri-City that was very well attended. I also have seen the NWWC at Godfrey. Sadly, that track is now history. Contact your local tracks, tell them you'd like to see some non-wing sprints. Maybe they will have a race or two. A successful race or two will breed more.

Though it is not close to STL, Valley Speedway in Grain Valley runs nonwing cars every Friday night with open engine rules. Grain Valley is about 30 miles from the metro KC area. The class has been growing the past couple of years and the race all the way through October!
