Now, a mistake is likely to end up in the wall at a fairly high speed or, if he flips, the catch fence could through the car back in front of traffic. There is no doubt that these young kids have the hand-eye coordination to drive the car very fast (and they fear nothing at that age) but, as a father, the decicision you have to make is, at how much risk are you willing to place him while he is on his learning curve. Just some things a dad might want to think about. Whatever decision you make, I wish you guys the best of luck this year!!
Thanks for the input. I appreciate it.

I would have to say that the concrete wall is my biggest concern.

I think I may consider some of the shorter tracks AMSA runs and possibly look into MMSA. We'll get the car out and practice and see how things go.

Thanks again.

As for taking to the NEW track, how about Jimmy Light. He seemed to come a long way at the Old Burg last summer.

There is a varity of different tracks associated with the MMSA.... You could start him at a smaller track such as Salem (dirt), and move him into bigger tracks like Moler or I-35... Either or 13 is not too young... Not these days. There are many kids that age in full size sprint cars... He will learn alot driving in a series like this... Plus the money is not bad If I Can help you answer any questions give me a call 812-345-3946...-Andy

Phil, I ran with AMSA in the early 90's and we ran the half mile at Olney, Ill which was flat, but extremely fast and dangerous. (Horse guardrail then 30' to chainlink fence then 4 lane highway - YEEHAWW ) We also ran Twin Cities with the wall and ran flat out at both tracks. Your son sounds like he will do well in the mini-sprints at whatever track you and he decide to run, but I would think you should at least start him out at one of the smaller tracks for a few races, just so he can get the feel of the car.
