Seems like a good purse to me, now that we know about the mustang. If you don't want the car, then sell it. Nobody will give up the lead intentionally and try to get 2nd.

Huh? Is the winner the winner? Or, is second the real winner, and the winner is the first loser? I am soooo confused???

I think it would be interesting to see a race with a purse structure based on passing. The driver that passes the most cars gets the most money, 2nd most cars gets 2nd place money and so on. Qualify for starting position and start every car that shows up. Make it 50, 75, or 100 laps to allow plenty of time to move through the pack. Call it "The Hard Charger 100" or maybe "The Sandbagger" since most guys will sandbag in qualifying to start in the back and pass more cars. 1st through 5th, or maybe 10th depending on how many cars, could have a set payout so somebody that starts up front would still be racing for decent money and make it tough on cars trying to pass them. Obviously it would put a premium on passing, which is something just about every race fan loves to see. In racing the fastest guy doesn't always win but in this case they would take home the most cash.
