I heard similar things about THAT. It sounded like the promoters wanted a guaranteed car count from USAC...

From what I have learned Kahne is not promoting the race at Oswego this year. USAC is renting the track and Jim is right contracts probably haven't been signed at this point. Even with Kasey group last year it was the end of June before those contracts were signed. I was told last week by a worker in the Oswego Speedway office that they have heard nothing from USAC as to what drivers would be there for advertising purposes. Last year this race was talked about over the winter on Speed Report and Wind Tunnel and Oswego talked about it in all of there press releases about upcoming events, this year nothing, no hype, not on the schedules already out in circulation. Scary! Hope it happends I will be in Oswego and plan on attending if there is a race.

The UMP Modifieds never have been an undercard for the Silver Crown Tony Bettenhausen Memorial 100 miler at the Springfield Mile. For a year or two the ARCA trucks raced ahead of the Silver Crown cars but they haven't been there in a couple of years and Sargent makes no mention of them being there this year on the Track Enterprises website. They did, however, run some qualifying races for sportsman stock cars prior to the Bettenhausen 100 many years ago and that didn't go over too good and Sarg then moved the whole sportsman thing to Sunday ahead of the ARCA 100 miler at Springfield.

But, at Du Quoin they run the UMP mods both on Sunday and on Labor Day Monday prior to the main attractions both days. They actually put on a pretty good show on the Magic Mile and are a worthy undercard unlike Springfield where there is lots of wreckin' of the sportsman stock cars. I hold my breath every year hoping no one gets hurt as there have been some wicked crashes over the years due to the inexperience on a big 1 miles dirt race track and the fact that those cars are made to be run on a 1/4 or 3/8's mile tracks.

The last trip I made to Terre Haute for the Silver Crown show they ran the mods ahead of the Crown cars, but I think Sargent was promoting that show and Bob hardly ever runs anything on a stand alone basis. The Hoosier Hundred may be the lone exception.

Joe,

I asked this question about three weeks ago here on the IOW board. Spridge made the comment, "don't worry, it's on. I was told it will be appearing on the track's website very soon..." Maybe Mike King needs to talk to Spridge?

Also ISF, thanks for the correction on the USAC Silver Crown race at Springfield. It has been a number of years since I was there and I thought the modifieds ran there. It was probably the sportsman stock cars that appeared there as the old mind isn't what it once was. The modifieds put on a decent show at DuQuoin and with the addition of lights it has made the racing even better.

I understand Mud, I suffer from the same malady and I seem to get worse every day, at least that's what my wife claims.

I believe the sportsman stuff only ran prior to the Bettenhausen 100 just one time. The natives in the stands were a bit restless as a result and they weren't there the next year. This goes back a ways and I don't remember what year it was.

Speaking of Terre Haute, and I don't mean to steer the thread in another direction, but I'm planning on going to the May 27th USAC sprinter show there and wanted to camp at THAT on the way to the Hoosier Hundred and Indy 500. Does anyone know what one needs to do to reserve a campsite and if they will let you camp even if all the sites with hookups are full. We have 5th wheel with an onboard generator and enough water, et cetera, so hook-ups are an option rather than a necessity.

Thanks in advance.

To clear up the sportsman issue-ISF is correct, and IIRC there were at least 4 heats of the doggone things (they had a huge turnout that weekend) that resulted, in shall we say, some debris being left behind. They were supposed to run heats that Sat and then B mains and a feature Sunday. None of the big car fans nor particpants were too excited, Sarge moved it all to Sunday.

Unfortunately, the sportsman, originally intended to be like street stocks, have morphed into steel block late models. At least the front runners.

And regarding the ARCA trucks, unless something has changed in the last few days I don't believe the ARCA trucks are coming back. It's not on their site and IIRC there was an ad in Speed Sport that indicated Mods at all three dirt miles.

I'll check.

Mods are fun to watch at DuQuoin , and they fly. The first night Champ Car race they had there, they hot lapped the mods first. They rubbered that ****** from top to bottom. Then the champ cars went out. It was the best race I ever saw there. The big cars ran from top to bottom, three wide, and white walling the right side tires. Tobias won. I just wish they 'd hot lap the mods first again. I love a wide race track, not a huggy pole.

The Illinois State Fair Website has them on the schedule for August 21, 2010 along with the USAC Silver Crown cars.

I won't know for sure until I get my free tickets for that race the week before.

Hmmm, the Illinois State Fair website mentions the ARCA trucks on its list of daily events but not in the grandstand entertainment lineup in the concerts and entertainment section and, as mentioned previously, they aren't listed on the Track Enterprises website, either.

I really don't have anything against the trucks. They didn't put on that good of a show on the occasions they have been on The Mile but they didn't seem to wreck every other lap either. The only complaint I would have with any support division, and specifically at Springfield, is that the track really gets locked down after so much practice and racing and the Silver Crown cars get to smokin' the right rear in the later stages of the 100 miler. This obviously precipitates right rear failure which forces excessive tire management, not to mention the fact that the fast line is right down on the rail and passing, even lapped cars, is very difficult. None of which lends itself to good racing.
