No different than how people go nuts over the NFL here. I'll never really understand that. I'll take the World Cup any day over the Super Bowl.

Well, the rugby world cup anyway. Oh, at least for me.

I landed in Paris the day that France won the World Cup in 1998. It was insane. I had no idea what was going on before I got there, but it was definitely the largest party I've ever been to.
Oh Jane, good to see your input here!

But seriously, you 3 earned three quick demerits by using the words "sushi", "Paris", and "beauty pageant" on the IOW board.

The good news is you return to good graces by invoking commons terms of "landed", "insane", "trying to figure out what was going on" and the inevitable "largest party I've ever been to".

You will put all four of those terms to good use in your 2010 Chili Bowl adventures. I have no doubts.

BTW, see you in Fort Wayne. Bring cheese curds for D.

Hey Scott! Vukie lured me over here from Twitter.

I almost ended that post with "Will I get voted off the island for using the words sushi and Paris on this board?" but I didn't want to plant that idea if nobody else was thinking it. :-P

Cheese curds - plain or flavored? White or orange? Squeaky or extra-squeaky?

You'll get to meet Duke at Fort Wayne too. He got really excited and begged to go with (the first time he's ever shown the slightest interest in racing) and then after I said yes, he let me know that we're stopping on the way there to pick up the new motorcycle he just bought. I WAS TRICKED.

On my way to the race shop in about an hour or two. Photos of new car coming soon, with that dusty-winged sprint car in the background, I'm sure.

I am not a big Soccer fan, but about ten years ago, I was sitting on the couch on a weeknight with nothing better to do and said to my better half, "lets go to the Soccer match at Anaheim Stadium." She said, "It is pouring rain, are you crazy." I told her it was raining and nobody goes out in the rain in Southern California. We would be able to pick where we want to sit under cover. It was USA vs Ecuador in some kind of cup (not World) match.

Bought our tickets and went to go in. She got let straight in as they had admission lines for woman and men. I had to stand in the middle of a snarling herd of men and had to be frisked and checked with a medal wand before being admitted. When we got inside, we were joined by 53,000 other fans!!! Of them, 18 others (maybe) spoke English!

Once inside it was one of the most exciting sproting events I have ever been to. Any time a player from Ecuador touched the ball, the stadium would vibrate and roar. It was amazing! Half-time was exciting, too. With nothing better to do, the Ecuador fans threw cherry bombs and M80's at each other! After a couple minutes of seeing them fly past our heads, we decided it would be safer to grab something to eat.

Second half was great. USA won 3-2 or 2-1 and I started thinking that may not be good as the Ecuador fans were getting pissed. However, no problem and they were more than happy in the parking lot after throwing more cherry bombs and M80s at each other.

I don't care what the rest of the world likes, soccer is boring as hell to me. Some putzs running around, kicking a ball....

Over seas, people are seemingly always getting trampled at a soccer game, or a gianormous fight breaks out and somebody gets killed, huge riots after the games, etc....absolute stupidity.

I could watch little kids race rocks down a hill, and be entertained...but I have no desire to watch a damn soccer game.
