I agree. Out of 280+ entrants, how many made it to the last three letters of the Alphabet Soup? The majority of racers who were there all week never made it on TV.

Perhaps it's a NASCAR mentality where they feel that building up personalities rates as more of a priority than building up the racing. But this isn't Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight, it's the Chili Bowl.

That said, the interview with French Grimes where he came right out and said that he didn't have "a chance in h-ll of making the race" was hillarious.:emote20:

I also thought is was worth the money. I would certainly be willing to pay more to see more nights of racing at the Chili Bowl. Indiana as certinly represented well in the top ten. It was geat hearing Pat Sullivan. I can't wait to hear him weekly at Bloomington Speedway again the summer.

All in all I thought it was pretty good. Maybe a little too much in car at the wrong time, but with that much action on that small of a track it may have technically been necessary. I thought the gray haired guy and the chick doing interveiws were horrible. Any number of drunk cup fans could have done as well. On the other hand I thought Dave Argabright, and Pat Sullivan were outstanding. For the first time I thought it as a whole came off really well. I went there in person 5 years in a row in the early to mid 90's. It was awsome, but everytime I looked at how crowded it was, I was more than happy to be on my couch.

I liked the line about no fumes. And then they panned to the track, and all you saw was a white haze hanging over the track.I like it! Didn't cost me 2 grand, didn't breath them nasty fumes,wasn't packed in like a sardine AND WASN'T DRINKING 3.2 BEER!

i thought the whole thing was terrible..way to many interviews by people who didnt have a clue what they were talking about..racing was ok for a saturday night in january..and watching it on tv is not like being there..

I thought it was the best racing program I have ever seen on TV. The sound was by far the best ever.
Lose Sargent, the chick & the jerk who tried to interview Altig and they might just have something.

Overall I thought I got my money's worth. Maybe some of that comes from being able to see only a handful of live races each year and that requires a minimum drive of 600 miles one way to KC (usually 1200 to Perris). The people from Speed Freaks were as stupid doing race track interviews as they are on their own show and where did Matt Yocum come from at a midget race? Is this just throwing a bone to the "fender fans." As usual Rice,Argabright and Pat Sullivan were outstanding they just couldn't talk enough to drown out this Stout guy.
If the people that put this on learn from their mistakes and get some constructive criticism maybe we can hope for a better show next year. They don't control they quality of the racing but they do control the rest of the show.

The guys in the booth were OK IMHO the guy doing interviews with Elvis and the like, Sorry, He sucked. I would ask one thing tho, Instead of talking about stewart ect. Why not give the names and possitions of the running order so I don't have to read that small scroll on the top as the race is going on?


Chuck, who probably woudn't have paid much more for it but It was by far the best TV racing I've seen. Far better than any Nascar Televised, Ever! At least they were racing balls out and not points chasing

I loved it. I'm really broke and can't afford to actually go to the race, so it's the next best thing. From a marketing standpoint, they did what they needed to do. I would be willing to bet if you took a poll of the people that bought the race, 20 to 25 percent had probably never heard of a midget, or watched one race. They heard Tony was going to be there along wth Kasey, and they figured for the money it would be worth it to watch. They did what they had to do, and I applaud them for it, hopefully it made enough money for them to bring it back next year. I thought the announcing staff was great except for the monster jam guy, but even then, he wasn't horrible. I like driver interviews, I think they make things interesting. I don't think I've ever felt worse for a guy than I did for Bubba, I've done something like that, certainly not on that big of a scale, but I've done it before, and it felt horrible. Can't blame Klepper for doing his job.

Here is a good question, how many people would pay 99.99 for the telecast to start at noon when they start the "K"s, and run all the way to the feature? I would in a heartbeat.
