I can assure you that the "skills" used by many of the current drivers would have gotten them a punch in the face, or worse, from one the veteran INDY 500 drivers who regularly ran sprint cars "back in the day"
How many times you can flip a car without getting hurt is not really a statistic to gloat about...........
I totally agree with Mac. Unfortunately, we must live in the present, not the past.
Oh, how I wish I could somehow magically put A. J. or Jack in their prime up against the likes of KS, etc. Some kids would be quickly learning "some manners".:icon_smile_blackeye

I think it must have been. I can remember at least two serious neck injuries in '06 without really trying. Pace and Clauson. But, I can't remember one in '07.

Could that be because of the HANS device?

I think there are couple who would handle things like that today but they know usac or the local promoter will come down on them and cost them points or a shot to win the next few weeks at there track or event because they have been suspended. So I would say don't blame the drivers blame the way society is today with everybody over reacting to not a whole lot.

If the sanctioning body would give the fines and suspensions that they should maybe this problem wouldn`t be getting worse every year. How many remember Brian Tyler`s 10,000.00 fine from USAC for punching Butler at Eldora ? Tyler just walked away from USAC for awhile and then they reduced the fine to 2500.00 ? If memory serves me right that is what he ended up paying. Spridge made a good point about the broken collarbones. I have heard several people say that is inherent with the use of a HANS device.
