Yes, the Hut Hundred belongs at Terre Haute. But a Hut Hundred at Haubstadt would surely have been better than no Hut Hundred at all, even to you.

If Terre Haute is to return under new management, as it appears will happen, then it needs to be able to return to it's rightful place of prominence on the schedules. Cannibalizing the events will help to prevent that from happening. While there is no doubt a 100 lap midget show at Haubstadt would be a great event the Hut Hundred should stay at THAT along with the Tony Hulman Classic for sprints and the Sumar classic for SC.

BrentTFunk- Tom Helfrich told me Friday that they had 10 more cars and a bigger crowd on Sunday last year than they had on Sat. night the previous year when they did the MSCS/USAC show. Haubstadt is traditionally a Sunday night track and I think the casual race fan in these parts had a habit of hitting the Labor Day show on Sunday, hence the better crowd on Sunday.
As far as DuQuoin is concerned with that conflicting with Haubstadt, USAC and ARCA swapped racing days which created that particular problem. You didn't ask about that. I just threw it in here.
Tom had a five year agreement on a handshake with USAC to run a Sat. night show with them on Labor Day weekend but USAC messed that up by creating a conflict with the midget race in Wisconsin the next year. Tom now chooses to do what he feels is best and that is have a MSCS race on Sunday.

I couldn't agree with you more, Dwight. It is so important for the right promoter to operate Terre Haute and bring it back to prominence. Another season of Arizona dust storm conditions will turn off even the most rabid fan and that would be a shame.

Flat right rear, I am looking at it from pure selfish reasons. It travel wise helps me to see 2 races instead of one. Believe me I never complained when duquoin was on Sun. and I had to hustle to Tri State for Sun night.

Flatrightrear I am glad you posted there on what happened to the race being run on saturday night and what happened to make it go back to being sunday nights again.It is amazing to see what actually goes on with some of these deals looks like Tom has been more than nice trying to get some things going there and working with usac but both times usac has been able to mess this up yet again.If a organization like this can not work with someone like Tom and make things happen has he apparently tried on his part there with the type of facilities he has and the great track to race on makes you wonder just how anyone can work with usac.

In defense of USAC, their cooperation with BMARA led to a resurgence of the Pepsi Nationals (Firemen's Nationals, whatever) and one of the toughest fields in that race's history. While I, too, miss the race at Haubstadt on Saturday night, it also provides a great race on Sunday night for those non-Silver Crown guys, and anybody who wants to go race a midget in one of the best midget events of the season can do that on Saturday night....

I am more interested in seeing additional races at places like Terre Haute, IRP, Toledo, Mansfield and some pavement tracks out East, while also filling weekends in late April, late May, and Independence Day weekend!

Love the thought of another $10K to win show at Tri-State in Sept.! Even though the racing has been falling off some at DuQuoin, I'll still be there come Labor Day weekend since it only happens once a year.

One very interesting weekend late in the year is Sep. 27 - 28. Haubstadt has a $10K to win MSCS/USAC sprint show Saturday night and Winchester has the USAC sprints Sunday afternoon. It is also old timers weekend at Winchester. Coming the week after the Three Crown at Eldora and the week before another $10K to win MSCS/USAC sprint show at the 'Burg makes for a great late season stretch.
