Last night (8/03/09) at 10.01 pm it was just a rumor. Man how things did change in a short time.

I want to follow up with what Sam had posted about the series. This decision was not made easily and was based on the fact that promoters wanted a decent car count for their money that they have put out and rightfully so. The fact is being able to compete in a series like SCORA is far better than not having one at all. Because of the “open” engine block rule we are contemplating the introduction of a few new rules for the 2010 season that will help contain the cost to compete and attempt to level the playing field as much as possible. The first rule that is on the table is a 1400lbs (with driver) minimum weight. What we also have on the table is a limited injection size to a 2 ½” diameter by using restrictor inserts used by other Series. There is one more rule that is will be in affect starting with this weekend as Sam has stated. The top 10 in points will be locked into the feature. This is our way of saying thanks to the teams that have been with us from the get-go. We believe that these rules will “TRY” to keep the cost in check as best as possible. Also for the 2010 season we currently courting three corporate series sponsor the will help take the SCORA Sprint Car Series to the next level and this will help us offer a fairly aggressive points fund for 2010. This will also help in having a few big purse special events during the season. Although nothing is concrete we do have our foot in the door with these three potential partners for next year. I have learned a lot this year by helping Sam and I can tell you it has been educational. Some of the education has been negative but for the most part it has been extremely positive and I thank him for that. The series can still be a “low budget” racing deal for the working man if we can keep the tracks on board and rules in check. We are working hard to increase our purse structure but not to the point of a USAC show or an MSCS event. The MSCS group has filled a vital piece in the sprint car pie and SCORA has no desire to attempt to compete on that level. However that being said we do believe that we can fill a piece of the sprint car pie by keeping our purse structure at a level that is doable for both the racers and the promoters. We feel that by us producing a sellable product at a fare price to the promoters we can stand on our own feet in the ever toughening sprint car market. PRoblem with locking top ten in points is, Who's going to show up knowing there is only ten spots left?????

A lot of cars pick and choose now on where they think they can at least make the feature.

Why not get rid of most rules, RUN OPEN 460 big block, whatever. Open the tire to all brands but two compounds each. Limit rim size to ten inches and have a compression rule so BOMB motors aren't welcome. Those two rules right there equalize a ton of factors except skill. You could make a 283 with 327 heads competitive or a small block 400 as long as cars weren't glued to the track and screaming 11,000 rpm

Not sure what to think of this.I havent been to a SCORA race this year but was going to be an official at the beginning of the season.After talking to Sam a few times my wife shot my idea down.I understand hoping to get the extra car count but Im not sure this direction will be good.It may be opening up a big can of worms.But not an involved individual just a concerned race fan.I have followed on here throughout the year and read all the rules before the season started.Regardless of what happens I wish SCORA the best and hope there is another year next year for this sprint car series.Good Luck!

Wow, the Haubstadt Mscs/Kiss race cost the same to get in http://www.tristatespeedway.com/information.html. But, I do need a racing fix after getting rained out the past couple of weeks so weather permitting I might still try to go.

As I have stated in the past this series was founded for guy's like you and me. However there hasn't been enough support from the steel block community to support the series so changes had to be made. There really has only been 5 teams that have been with us all year and 2 of them are done for the year.Yes it sucks because I for one was thrilled at the prospect of having this type of deal to race in next year but as the year played out it was obvious that there wasn't enough steel blocks devotion to keep going as is. The question has been raised why would anyone want to run for 600 bucks? Well we are trying hard to change that but we cant do it without promoters and they want cars. PERIOD! I have question why would anyone want to run for $35 or $50 bucks to start a "B" main or why would anyone want to run a feature for $100 bucks for 9th on back? I ran the modified so I know what it means to run for nothing but Sam had to low ball the promoters to buy into the concept and looking back he would be the first guy to tell you that it was the wrong way to sell the series. Have we made mistakes yes but believe me guys we only want this deal to get better. This can stilll be a great little series for guys me and I hope it works..John Gurley

The points deal is being tested this weekend. We will see how it goes. The main thing is we weren't getting the support needed and Sam decided to test the waters with this rule change. To be honest if we would have had half of the 32 teams that said that they were with us, really be with us, then this wouldn't have had to be brought up at all but again we just didn't have the support.

There is a $40 a year fee but Sam has droped it $20 for the rest of the year. This money goes to our trophy fund and we do have nice trophies.:2: This is the only fee..

Just my .02 worth but what I've seen with this series (i apologize if i mis-speak here as i'm working off memory) is that tracks have used Sam and the series as a low buck way to promote sprint cars at their venues and tried to stick it to the fans at the front gate. I think Charleston had a $15 or $20 admission earlier in the year that i commented on and now Chandler thinks they can bump to $15 and advertise sprint cars even though they only are $600 to win and may only have 10 cars show up. I think Sam may have had noble intentions when this thing was concieved but it should be obvious from the support (or lack thereof) that the racing community is not behind such a series. Sam should have gone back and taken a position with the MSCS and worked with an already established organization to curb racing costs as oppposed to trying to start from scratch. Hell if I were the MSCS I wouldn't have paid the guy a dime for the rights without a no-compete just because of crap like this. Who knows maybe somebody will purchase SCORA and Sam will start another series in a couple of years...
