Don, I agree that we see too much of the water truck, but as long as they can still get people to attend it won't stop. Watch on this board, if someone grips about the track prep there will be a group that will jump all over them. This is really bad if you are talking about Terre Haute. This year I'll be at about half of the races at I would have been 20 years ago and the number one reason is a poorly preped track. I won't pay to watch water trucks or try to watch a race in a dust storm.

At every race I attend, I purchase a pit pass, go to the pits before the race, and then sit in the grandstand to watch the races (except at Gas City, where the pit stands are much more comfortable). Everywhere in America, from East Bay to Perris and everywhere in between, my pit pass gets me into the grandstand. Everywhere, that is, except for Terre Haute and Oskaloosa. Last year, according to the Terre Haute web site, it appeared that you had to pay for the pit pass and full price for the grandstand, just like DA. When I called the office and inquired about this, they were very nice and didn't seem to realize that was actually the result of their policy. It was quickly changed, so that you could be in the pits, the infield, or the non-reserved section of the grandstand with a pit pass. That was a very fan-friendly decision on their part and I congratulated them on it.

I bought a pit pass at the first race this year and checked to make sure that the same policy was in place. I was told that I had to pay an additional fee on top of the pit pass cost to sit in the grandstand. When I told them what had happened last year, the response was that they were "just trying to make a buck". I am tempted to call it something else and have adjusted my race attendance and purchasing habits to insure that I don't reward practices such as this.
