Taking Dwight's post a step further:
First off, did they say the 50/50 would go entirely to the point fund? Or does everyone just assume it does? I've never heard where their share goes.

I think Lawrenceburg had 28 races this past season. Take $400 per night in 50/50 and you only come up with $11,200 (but remember they have four classes).

Lawrenceburg doesn't have a tire rule so there's no extra money coming from there.

Lawrenceburg didn't even have a sponsor for their sprint division until halfway through the season.
I think Lawrenceburg only had 16 races that awarded points to the sprints. I don't have the car count for May 19th but the remaining 15 shows averaged 37.2 cars per night.

Car counts ranged from 46 (6/30 & 9/1) to 28 (4/28 & 8/18).

We would have loved to pay out much more to the points fund. We put every penny we made from 50/50 into the points payout plus more from my personal money. Not to mention i bought 45 jackets at over $2000 plus some trophies and plaques which was another $1300. The banquet cost me another $2000 on top of admission fees which racers paid a $25 entry. This past racing season was very successful as far as our racing program went, however when everything was said and done we broke even, which i am happy with, for our first year. Not to many people will work 100+ hours a week and not make a dime. I love the sport and giving racers and fans a place to race weekly.
Regular shows don't make money, they lose money, special shows can make money but it all depends on the weather and what time of the week. The year end points payout is a BONUS...nothing is gauranteed.
I paid out every purse the season in full even on a bad night. I will continue to do so. Next season i would hope the year end points payout will be more, but we'll just have to wait and see how 50/50 goes and if we get more sponsorship money.
I would like to thank each driver, team, and fans who supported racing this year wherever you raced.
Sincerely, Dave Rudisell
the pm i sent stagger simply said to send questions to me in a pm if it is directed at me.

I have a good idea of what Dave is going through. When I first took over Lawrenceburg (1980) nobody else wanted it. I was the only one who put in a bid. That first year I lost money. I had to loan my S-Corp $6000 to open the gates the 2nd year. After learning from some of my mistakes that first year, I streamlined some things, did some promotional stuff (that worked) and shifted where I spent my advertising $$$$. I did a little better than break even that year but, it was moving in the right direction. In the mean time we were developing a pretty good reputation and the crowds and car counts were steadily increasing. By the 3rd year it was running like a well oiled machine with great crowds and great car counts. I made excellent money that year, however, that success also worked against me. Others were now expressing interest in the track. The fairboard didn't renew my contract for 1983 and awarded the track to Mel Johson. Promoting and preparing the track was the hardest buck I had ever earned. Killing moles is much less stressful. I'm really looking forward to 2008 at Lawrenceburg and I could care less if there is a point fund. I agree with Dwight Clock on this one. Take whatever you were going to put in the point fund and distribute it via the weekly purse to those guys struggling from 11th to20th. It would be much more beneficial to the racers and the overall health of the track.

While I have been around for a while, I have never actually met a racer that [I]ever[I] took into consideration the end of the year payout as to wether or not they raced a certain track. That should be residual income at most!

IMHO it's not about the money. It's the prestiege and the record book. Look how many great champions LBurg has had in the last 50 years. Gaines, Milburn, Staab, Wilkerson to name a few. Some in multiple divisions.

WInning a championship at a track that averaged 30+ cars is nothing to take likely.

This was probably the same guy saying there were not trophys at the banquet when he didn't attend and then the pictures show up with trophys and plaques at the banquet :kookoo2:

If Dave could hook up with some sponsors to maybe donate a chassis per divison, A key to the city, a season lift ticket to a ski lodge,
somethin somethin. It would be nice but not manditory.

I did notice the 50/50 was running about half past years, Sell em at the concessions, Sell them at the gate and by all means interview the winners if they want to let people see that you can win. For 20 bucks the 50/50 girl will give you six tickets every time she passes ya. Although Id settle for a wink :wink1:

Keep up the good work Dave and know you did nothing but make me want to be at the track every week.

Chuck, congrats to Joss and the other champions at the burg. It's the recognition people! :applaud:

WELL BACK IN THE OLD DAYS (1975) WE WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE BURG AND IN 1970 AT ATOMIC (KC) AND GOT ZIP. SOME THINGS JUST DON'T CHANGE VERY MUCH. WE DIDN'T EXPECT ANYTHING. I THINK IT'S JUST APRECIATION FOR SPENDING YOUR MONEY AT A TRACK ALL YEAR. PURSES ARE ABOUT THE SAME WAY. THE ONLY BIG JUMP IN AREA PUSES OVER THE YEARS IS BLOOMINGTON. IN 1975 THEY PAID FROM 150-350 TO WIN. NOW THEY PAY 1300 I BELIEVE.LUCKILY WE HAD A DRIVER WHO NEVER TOOK A DIME. THANKS MR. GILSTRAP FOR ENABLING US TO ACOMPLISH SO MUCH TOGETHER.:checkered:
