Syracuse, Terre Haute, OKC,...

But my biggest mystery is the promotion. I know that Bob Sargent does an incredible job. He and his crew have come to help at Indy, right?

But why does DuQuoin still only pay 9k something to the winner? That's been the purse for many, many years. Those stands down there on Labor Day weekend are practically packed?

Is is track rental, insurance costs, what?
I would love to see the sliver crown cars in Okc but we do not have the half mile anymore. It has about three truck loads of dirt off of what use to be turn two and grass growing all around it. Lanny Edwards thought it would be best to have a 3/8's and run all the weekly classes on that track.

With the sucess the sprint bandits have when they come though this part of the country you would think USAC would test the market a bit more. I sent PM's after PM's to Mr. Miller trying to convince him to bring more USAC races here. But, I understand it comes down to a money issue.

Call me a pessimist, but I think the SC series as we know it it not long for this world. I hope I am wrong.

Why would anybody in their right mind build two different types of cars for 10 races? With the Sprints and Midgets running so many shows, where do the SCs fit in? I can not think of the last time the SCs had a full field. The two most recent being 28 at The Hoosire 100 and only 16 at Manzy. They had what 17 or 18 for The Four Crown last Sept.

As much as I like the big cars, maybe this proposed Gold Crown series might(and I said might) be a good thing. Imagine the current SC series goes away and the Gold Crown series becomes a stepping stone to The IRL. Granted it would be all pavement, but what does The IRL run? If they could be a support series for IRL races, it might work. Having a pecking order of Gold Crown, Indy Lights and on to The IRL.

Times are changing and I do not like it,but just maybe something good will come of this.

you are correct it does not make any since what so ever to build 2 cars to run 10 races and unless somebody does something different the sc car counts will continue to be low and they will slowly die off it does not take a brain surgeon to see this comming. I was very hopeful when the season started out that things were going to pick up but with the loss of Milwauke I think that is a sign of things to come for sc. The Gold Crown div is a group of people that have a drive to get things done and they are making progress in the forward direction. I do not know the inside workings of USAC but I hope they step up and put more attention on the sc div.

I won't call you a pessimist, I think your vision for the Gold Crown Series is delusional. As long as Gold Crowns are Front Engined, Formula Vee has more connection to IRL cars.
USAC lost it's place as a ladder series to INDY when it banned Rear Engined Sprints, Midgets & SC cars.
I wish it wasn't so but...

I think the best thing that USAC could do for the SC OWNERS is to mandate COMBO CHASSIS ONLY as is being done to try to save the Focus Midget Series.

O.K., let's say you are right about that, and for what it's worth, I think you are indeed correct. Which entity has suffered more damage as a result? USAC or Indy car racing?? Are you suggesting that USAC's only reason for living is to serve as a ladder series for CART/IRL/WHATEVER?? Should USAC be running RE sprints and midgets on road/street courses to provide experience in that now all important genre'? Would anyone pay to watch if they were?? I know what I think. Wondering what others believe.

Edit: Just realized that I have contributed to the derailing of this thread. Sorry 'bout that. We now return you to the subject at hand: Silver Crown Schedule

I don't think it has hurt either USAC or Indy car. USAC is one of the best kept secret in racing.
No, I don't believe USAC needs to be a feeder series to anywhere.
And No, I don't think USAC should do road courses. Would anyone watch, if they did? Have you ever been to an SCCA event?

USAC needs to quit underestimating it's product. It has some of the best racing in the country. And simply needs to PROMOTE ITSELF!

If USAC went to mandating combo chasis for SC then that series will be done the day they did it. They can pull that off with focus because they are doing it early enough that most cars are still combo cars. I do beleave focus started out as a combo car series then went to purpose built cars. If you throw that kind of change into SC after the switch from old style cars to new gen cars then back to old style cars there wont be 5 cars show up to the first race and you will only get that many if the frame tubes arent rusted clear intwo from sitting behind some barn so the cows had something to rub on. They just need to add races to SC both dirt and pavement. The Goldcrown series will be a great advantage to drivers wanting to move on to the next level they will be able to show road course experience, short track, and speedway experience the last I checked super vee only ran road courses. Also Bruce is in contact with IRL teams getting feedback on what they see as benificial to getting silvercrown and Goldcrown drivers into indy car.

1. Why Syracuse?, Rolling Wheels would be excellent for Champ Cars.

2. The Grove put on a great show in 79 or 80. Full house too.

3. USAC trashed the focus series when they dumped the combo cars to begin with. Also if your from Indiana, you don't buy a focus for your kid, you get a sprinter.

4. As for gold crown, it's a big pipe dream in the present economy. When the economy was good , they could barely draw 20 cars for a show.

5. You are also dreaming if you think gold crown is going to take you anywhere else. The only thing that does that now is M-O-N-E-Y.
