Why would anybody in their right mind build two different types of cars for 10 races? With the Sprints and Midgets running so many shows, where do the SCs fit in? I can not think of the last time the SCs had a full field. The two most recent being 28 at The Hoosire 100 and only 16 at Manzy. They had what 17 or 18 for The Four Crown last Sept.
As much as I like the big cars, maybe this proposed Gold Crown series might(and I said might) be a good thing. Imagine the current SC series goes away and the Gold Crown series becomes a stepping stone to The IRL. Granted it would be all pavement, but what does The IRL run? If they could be a support series for IRL races, it might work. Having a pecking order of Gold Crown, Indy Lights and on to The IRL.
Times are changing and I do not like it,but just maybe something good will come of this.
I won't call you a pessimist, I think your vision for the Gold Crown Series is delusional. As long as Gold Crowns are Front Engined, Formula Vee has more connection to IRL cars.
USAC lost it's place as a ladder series to INDY when it banned Rear Engined Sprints, Midgets & SC cars.
I wish it wasn't so but...

I was very hopeful when the season started out that things were going to pick up but with the loss of Milwauke I think that is a sign of things to come for sc. The Gold Crown div is a group of people that have a drive to get things done and they are making progress in the forward direction. I do not know the inside workings of USAC but I hope they step up and put more attention on the sc div.
I think

the best thing that USAC could do for the SC
OWNERS is to mandate COMBO CHASSIS ONLY as is being done to try to save the Focus Midget Series.
