1973 Ford LTD 4dr. Painted all day ugly green. As soon as I turned 16 there were 5 of us that would pool are $ and head off to the races every weekend. One tent, one big@ss ugly car, an envelope full of arm bands(no way a bunch of H.S. kids could afford tickets). We seldom had enough $ for anything extra, but times that money could not replace!

My first personal car wasn't much to write about, but it got me around. It was a 1985 Caviler.

My first sprint car was a 1992 J & J. I didn't know it until last year, but it was actually the first sprint car that I ever really "worked" on when Manny Rockhold (the original owner) was driving it when I was 14.

Great idea for a forum topic!

First car, 1975 Ford F100 truck, 302, three speed. First race car 1980 Shores sprint with 355 steel block and heads, steel wheels, heavy everything. Weighed in at a trim 1750 pounds lol. The honest truth is the truck would probably have outran the race car, and definetly was more reliable.

The very first family car I ever drove was my mother's 1962 Buick Special with a somewhat dull sky blue color. No power steering and there was a bit of play in the steering to make life a little interesting.

The first vehicle I ever owned, since I had the Buick to fall back on, was a 1972 Honda CB175 motorcycle. It made it to a few races including the open comp 100 lap midget race at Winchester Speedway around Nov. 3, 1973. The temp never got much above 55 degrees and when the sun went down it was in the upper 40s. I didn't thaw out for two days. Three days later I was knocked off the motorcycle by a Plymouth Fury. Still have the imprint of the bumper on my left shin.

The first 4-wheeled vehicle I owned a few weeks later was a red 1970 Ford Maverick. It wasn't a great looking car but it had no rust and it was very dependable. It was the only car I owned that had four different tires on it (when I bought it); a Dayton, Atlas, Sears and Kelly Springfield.:emote20: That was in the days of bias-ply tires that lasted maybe a little more than 15k miles. Made a few races in that one too.

1931 Model A Ford 2 door sedan purchased for $25 in 1959. Had to get it out of a guy's barnyard, behind the barn. Body was junk, so I bought another body (primered pink) for $10. A buddy and I actually channelled that thing. It was ugly and barely ran, but it was mine! About a year later, I bought another Model A. This one ran much better, and I got my silly fanny in trouble with it repeatedly until I enlisted in the USAF shortly after high school graduation. Both cars were long gone when Uncle Sam set me free 4 years later. By then I had a 1963 Austin-Healey Sprite, purchased new while serving in France.

I had a nice 1969 Pontiac Tempest with an in dash 8 track player. To bad i went out one night and put the old shine on and ran over a fire hydrant with it. It was really messed up after that. :Steer
