Makes one wonder if a rep of the new "owners" of the track are there to see the packed stands and what they may think of that? Just a thought.
Somehow I think they really don't care.......... but that's JMO.

They could care less about what the fans think. It's a business world anymore. All people care about is D&C. If it's not perfect for business then they figure we don't need it.

Just think KOP. Only 2 more weeks, and you'll have to find another subject to throw around your misinformed and worthless banter.

The idiots that think they have money, usually have no brains.this is the case with manzanita speedway.these idiots talk racing but have never truly lived to race.they say that there not making any money so they sold the track and say they'll relocate it at a new home.i say boycott them now and forever!!! The history of manzanita speedway should not and cannot have a price tag on it many great drivers lost their lives there.racing has never been and never will be profitable!! These idiots should buy a sports bar or better yet, buy a port a jon and talk there **** thier!!!!!!

I find it interesting that nobody has mentioned that all 3 heats, and the feature were won from the pole. Granted there was passing in the back of the field (S Kinser for one). But, IMO the format for the WOO could use some tweaking! I find it humorous that 5 weeks back on Hoseheads.com somebody posted there that USAC only having a 16 car Silver Crown was horrible! Where are they today after only a 21 car WOO field? At least the mini sprints had a feature winner that didn't start on the pole. I suppose if the WOO comes back to this area again I'll be like a lemming, and go drink the coolaid, and then question why I did go. My reason for going yesterday is simply that time is running out for a historic track, and I'll be sad after I walk out in 2 weeks after the last show. I only saw Manzanita the first time in 2002 for the SCRA, and I was impressed with what I saw enough to move out to Arizona in 2005. RIP Manzanita! The WOO did not impress me for their "Last Stand in the Desert", nor was I about to buy there limited edition t-shirt.

Not only where the stands packed, the first and fourth turn areas were full of people standing that couldn't find a seat. I spotted a car in the parking lot from Ontario, Canada an another from Iowa; I am sure there were more fans that either winter here in the valley or that hauled a great distance to attend this race just as they did a month ago for the USAC race. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that they wondered if the new owners where there to see this crowd. Do you think they really care?

The one thing that has baffled me the most since learning on March 12th that Manzy had been sold was the fact that when ever I have been there the crowds have been good and car counts usually stronger than over parts of the country. You certainly can't compare the crowds at a regular weekly show at Manzy with the special events shows they hold, they just don't draw the number of people weekly that they draw for the Western Worlds, Cooper on Dirt or WOO.

Earlier today while talking with a friend I explained my frustration over Manzy closing. An they said to me why would a crane company pay $10 to $20 million to park there equipment on a site? I forgot at the time we were talking about the newspaper article on the sale of the track stating the new owner wanted the mineral rights for the land associated with the track.

JMHO there is probably more to the sale of Manzy than any of us will ever know about or understand. When the petition drive and the attempt to e-mail the local Phoenix politicians appeared on this board my mind went into overdrive. What do you do with this petition once everyone signs it? A petiton drive doesn't mean someone is standing in line with the money necessary to take over the operation of the track. That is what it would take to save Manzy, someone with the money to now buy the track back from the new owners.

Someone earlier in this thread said to boycott a new Manzy if the track is moved, I hope that was frustration that made them say that. From what little I know of the situtation the name can be bought for a song is how it appeared in our newspaper. To the best of my knowledge the people interested in moving Manzy haven't profitted from the sale of Manzy, they are simply trying to give the racers another venue here in the local Phoenix area to continue racing at. IMHO there is no way the tradition, the history that is Manzy can be moved, it will be lost in two more weeks. There is a large racing community here in Phoenix, 13 divisions or classes would have raced at Manzy this year, most of those competitor's live in the local Phoenix area; if someone wants to try to get a new Manzy up and running then support them don't boycott them. What is the other option hauling to Tucson or New Mexico on a weekly or semi-weekly basis to go racing with a show at Canyon from time to time. As much as none of us want to face it, it appears the sale of Manzy is a done deal. If it did in fact sell for $20 million dollars it would make a repurchase price rather pricey.

Back to last nights racing, Djbamber desicribed it perfectly, very little passing, no real excitement to the racing, they may call themselves the best show on dirt give me a Western Worlds or Copper on Dirt Show any day over the WOO. I was reminded last night why it was only the second WOO Show I have gone to see in the eight years I've lived in the valley. Actually a friend of mine was suppose to attend last nights race with me, health issues prevented her from going. When I called her this morning and told her the only thing she missed was WOO's electronic score board she thought I was just trying to make her feel good and she had missed a great race. Not!!! But there sure was a packed venue.

Jon, remember all those Saturday afternoon backyard cookouts with the family? We would all get fat, dumb and happy and then head out to Manzy for the sprints and midgets. Man, I still can't believe it's closing. "Progress" really blows. :crying:
David.
