Well, I'll be choosing Midget week over ILLSW, but that still makes it possible to see the race at Danville, and Jacksonville is still a possibility if USAC doesn't fill the Thursday TBA!

Happy as I am to finally see a schedule like this close enough to Springfield that I can sleep at home after at least most of the races, I am really, really disappointed that I now have to choose between Illinois Sprint Week and Indiana Midget Week (at least for most of the races). Perhaps so few of us travel to Indiana consistently that this is not even something that merits thought while scheduling, but it is a bummer for those of us who do travel. Oh well, life is all about choices. And I am really glad to see someone finally schedule sprint races in Illinois. Some of us have been hoping for this for years. Thanks for finally doing it!

Don Hammer (IOW username: live4racing) of Clinton IL, who promotes Lincoln and Farmer City is the organizer and is finally putting a 2 year old idea into motion. Bell Helmets will be apart as well as others to be announced. We talked and talked and talked about it for some time, but last fall he went to work on the ISW, and with the cooperation of the other tracks, this was the best overall line up that could be had for 2009. Is it perfect for all, maybe not, but to get all of the other tracks to be available and even interested, and at the same time, wasn't easy as saying "we should run this certain week", or "what about IN Midget week?" All of that was taken into consideration as was the late model and modified schedules. It all had to work out. About the only other option was in the fall sometime and we all know how iffy that can be for many reasons.

As it approaches, I'm sure Don would appreciate anyone's input and participation, but the Illinois Sprint Week isn't about Indiana racing, or USAC and MSCS, it's about non wing sprints for one week in Illinois, and everyone is welcome to come. If you like midgets or there is something else to do, by all means you should go, you're not missing anything......it wasn't here before to miss. And hopefully in 2028 we will be running the 20th annual IL Sprint Week.
