Not quite USAC legal as there is no engine rev limiter at Chili Bowl.

I’m anxious to hear the explanation for this. The car was not unsafe. The driver had more than adequate experience and was of a legal age. The car was not a danger to others on the track.

What will be allowed at the 2022 Chili Bowl are car designs that employ thin tubing, drivers with no open wheel experience, children, and cars that are seconds/lap slower than the field.

Sorry, I forgot to add to the rules as we know them:

4. Bolt on mud covers only. No Dzus button fasteners on mud covers (but plastic Dzus buttons are welcome everywhere else.)

A good number of the cars wouldn't be legal in any other racing series due to lightweight tubing, traction control, body panels, fuel tanks, etc.

So now the rules are:

1. No grafting two motorcycle engines into a V8,
2. No left front skis in place of a wheel
3. No 10" wheel cars

I guess innovation is great, until you upset the wrong people. Then it's all get in line with the rest of us!

The 118 NEVER was a chain drive. It is a brilliant engineering effort at a "Chili Bowl only car". It is far from alone. And it is exactly the type of effort that helps bring people in. There is always a crowd around Bondios pit wondering what he might do next. And looking holes in his cars, knowing that they can't comprehend all the tricks. Everyone, roots for the underdog that is doing it with talent instead of cubic money. If he won on his qualifying night; the fans would blow the roof off of the place. I say let him run.
So why did they ban it????? Were there any comments?

From ChiliBowl.com. These are the only rules I could find.

Car Appearance Rules
**Right and Left side cockpit body panels may be a maximum of thirty-six (36) inches high as measured from the bottom frame tube at rear motor plate and projected rearward twenty-three (23) inches with a minimum eight (8) inches vertical opening from the afore mentioned point forward, including side visor.

**The top of the car should open as to allow the driver to exit. Any panels affixed to the top of the roll cage,or positioned over the driver's head no matter how it is attached. will not be allowed.

**Side visors on roll cage will be limited to eight (8) inches tall.

**Panels attached to nerf bars will not be permitted.

**All paneling must not extend past edge of frame rails more than thickness of material.

**One (1”) inch turnout allowed on all body and sail panel edges, except sun visor.

**The number of allowable wheels is restricted to two (2) front wheels and two (2) rear wheels on each car. Use of anything other than a wheel and tire assembly is prohibited.

**Minimum 5/16” flanged steel bolt and an approved ASCS or WoO fastening (nut assembly) system must be used on all Wheel Covers.

**Teams running multiple cars with identical numbers, a letter is required on each vehicle. Letters must be a minimum of 7 inches tall and must clearly accompany the car’s number on the tail tank. The number on the nose piece must also have the corresponding letter. Each car letter must be of a different contrasting color. Car number and letter combination must be legible from the Scorer’s Stand.

Website Supersedes All Printed Material

Attention Teams
In compliance with our contract with the Tulsa Fairgrounds, ALL participants MUST run fuel purchased from Simons Petroleum at the Event. This fuel, containing 10% ethanol, will improve the air quality inside the building. Fuel will be checked in the staging area & any infractions will result in disqualification of car and driver. A colored dye will be added to the fuel for the purpose of enforcing the rule. There will be no exceptions and this will be monitored by the Tulsa Fairgrounds. NO outside fuel will be permitted. Any trailers found to be transporting fuel into the building will be escorted from the premises by the Tulsa Fire Marshall.

Per the Tulsa Fire Marshall, all teams must have a fully functioning Fire Extinguisher in their Pit Area at all times. One per trailer is required.

Maybe it is like Formula 1 ended this year and there is one more rule: The Race Director can do whatever he wants at any time and wave any rule, even if it determines the championship.

If I remember correctly, this is the result of Kasey Kahne bringing a midget that did not have a LF wheel, but a ski - years ago. Now THAT'S innovation!

Thanks for the refreshing, I remember it
now, something that crossed my mind on more than one occasion, guess that's the reason for the rule.

I think you have some of the right letters in the name but I'm very certain it was Cory Kruseman...that kinda spells like Kasey Kahne...lol. Unless he did too?

Oh, hell... you are probably right. I can just remember it. A ski is a ski on the grand scheme of things. I know for sure it wasn't Jean-Claude Killy, though!
